Monday WRites 239

[In today's mosaic an old photo from my garden redone with stickers from Picsart]

While i grew up in Trinidad, schooled, and churched as Roman Catholic. I was born on another Caribbean island, Grenada. In St Georges the capital of the island. When i was growing up, and lived with my parents, the area we lived was considered country. Not so today though. It is now a bustling borough. I live now in an urban area of St James, in the city of Port of Spain, and i like it more that the area in which i grew up as a child.

When i think back to the island where i was born, My choice memory is of my vacations going to stay at my uncle's house and going to the beach in Grand Anse every day of my stay. But i think my fondest, though haziest memory, is of my grandfather, who i didn't have for very long in my live but still is my fondest.

He was an electrician back then and also worked with his hands crafting wire planters and other household items. I remember growing up seeing in my parents home a wire basket where my mother stored newspapers. When i came to my own home, somehow i wanted it. When i finally asked my mother she willingly gave it to me. I have painted and repainted that stand-up basket my times in a different colour. I have used it as planter, magazine holder, and presently it stores potatoes onions and garlic, standing in a choice corner in my kitchen.

in a corner of my heart
there stays my grand pa

Linked back to DEAR GRANDPA

[For Kim's challenge... asked to go back into our archives to search for an autobiographical poem, one of which particularly fond or one that lends itself to the task in hand.
Write a prose background to the chosen poem, giving more details of when and where it happened, who else was involved, the how and the why, including a link to the original poem if you wish, and then sum up the poem in a haiku. Aim to write no more than three tight paragraphs, followed by a traditional haiku that includes reference to the season]

DAWN: MAKING MYTHS [8]
"She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless she persisted" I can still hear those words echoing in the caves of Lockdown, near Pandemic. What a show off, this ventriloquist, Dawn (harbinger of new day) throwing her voice to bird song, whistles and twitterings.

Time and time again; the scares, the bullying, the trepidations would come up against her. "Regress into the shadows of night! Eat the moon! and there, stay!"

Yet, she had this streak of Ixora-ness in her genetic makeup, this staying power, this openness while others slept. Her persistence annoying to even the dreaded Covid19.

Monday WRites 238

Social distancing the phrase of the day for some time now. I haven't seen Poui trees in bloom this year yet. I have been following the good advise of authorities and going only to the grocey store and fruit vendor nearest to where I live. In the mosaic below, I am sharing Poui trees from 2019.

QUADRILLE MAGIC
a magic wand would do the trick
creating sufficient distance of oblivion

that necessary maneuver fit for a Covid of any number

then hugs will cheer hip hip hurray
and borderlines stretch from slumber awakened
to the new world of a loving global family

CLEAN HANDS
With clean hands, the grasp of a cup of tea,
And hope swirling, rising like steam
Trashing the fury of uncertainty,
Hot in the heart of social distancing,
In a world without hugs, the grasp of a cup of tea;
Cheers for the planet we live on and love,
Passion let it be
That we can approach divine mercy,
In a time, a compassionate era of helpless we
Battle the germ of panic, and
Pray sip in faith, with the grasp of a cup of tea.

Monday WRites 237

I don’t know why I was surprised every time love started or ended. The world as we know it is strong, tangible, intangible, disruptive, loving, kind and so much more.

A new era of invisibility is stalking and wrecking havoc over the Planet Earth we love. What we cannot see can make us sick.
Social distancing is the new event happening across the globe. A world marathon of waves, winks, and smiles.

What a global catastrophe. The air we breathe can rid us of those grand old ones in our midst. Imagine a world sans grandma and grandpa. Not a happy scenario at all.

No wars no weapons yet, we are forced out of our places of worship. Wash your hands, no hugging, no handshaking: we are parented by new mother media caution.

The new challenge across borders, COVID 19.
Psst don't panic!

EARLY BIRDS - FOLD
Day Clean and Kiskadee,
They say are the worm catchers
Of the fattest kind you see,
They sing dawn's clearing,
These two; Day Clean and Kiskadee,
Here in Trinidad and Tobago;
Pigeons stir early, but as for me,
Song of kis kis ka dee, i listen for;
Grackles too charge their strange fee
To chorus of morning's awakenings,
Adding songs to Day Clean and Kiskadee.

QUADRILLE - STIR
Remember when we stirred daydreams
In sweet fertile dawn of our togetherness
Only bliss was thrown into mixing schemes
Magical tomorrows were with tenderness
The concoction of carefully blended seams
Ah those cliches how they melted in, happiness
Perfectly smoothly thickened like ice cream

CONTAGION - A FOLD
The new one comes in bold strides of masks,
Laughing behind sneezers and coughs,
Wearing her name tag - contagion, tsk tsk
Without the least bit of apprehension,
The alien comes in bold strides of masks,
Her abhorrence of party loving earthlings,
Serious issue to blue jewel planet, a task;
The enormous size of her entire sphere,
Width and breath of her sultry masque,
Pandemonium her sibling, clutches the globe
Alas! she sauntered in, bold strides of masks.

Mars they say is the red planet, yet i have seen cartoon martians presented as green. Earth it is said is a blue jewel in the galactic planetscape, yet for all intents and purposes earth as we know the soil to be is brown. Tomatoes too are red, that is after they had been green and young. Perhaps a young martian is green.
