NOW voiced by gillena cox

The empty street leads to the mountain

Where clouds sit upon

Looking down at us lowly creatures

In our houses

Hiding away from pandemic viruses

Once upon a time

We flooded the beach sands with our footsteps

Running

Laughing

Playing

Like children just discovering what joy is

And today

The silence wraps us in warm hugs

The kind we want to shrug off

But we know

They are the best we should have NOW.

PROCESS NOTE

This was a hard challenge for me. I voiced my poem on my phone but could not upload it. Then i tried voicing again directly to the post but it was not accepted so i had to go to my  laptop and  tried to up load the voiced recording to sound cloud only to be more confused and frustrated. I could only get it uploaded if i included it making it into a video. Only then it could be accepted to the post

Hope  you enjoy this attempt

Haibun Monday 8-30-21: Back to school

Today, that is,  2021, some will still have to stay at home. Some will will be taxied. Some ride the mini buses. Some will be chauffeured by dad or mom or other such caregivers. All should be Pfizer vaccinated. Back to school in the new normal era.

the call to donate -
bagging notebooks, pens, pencils
back to school drive

Those staying at home will have to have the uniforms cleaned and fitted(just as if they were entering the school building through the main gate) and, the lap tops and tablets working in tip top shape.

Down memory lane takes me personally to a time when copy books were brown papered. Washecongs were whitened. Socks were paired left/right and ties, yes ties pressed and ready.

that smell of new books -
what house colour will i wear
who will be prefect

Back Story
#Washecongs: what we now call sneakers. Back then, they were white and had to be scrubbed clean and a white liquid polish applied.
#At high school, both the boys and as well  the girls wore ties.
#My high school alumni  organised a back to school hamper drive, as an event to assist students who would need help due to pandemic circumstances.

well girl, here we are

In our seventies, not too bad so far;

bird song of mornings,

and sunset evenings;

tis the way this life must go,

gratefulness be our mojo;

i and i, you know what they say,

best buds, all the way...

To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;

When' s the last time
You lost a dime
Wrote a poem that didn't rhyme
Bought from the market a green lime
And swallowed whole a window chime.
Pray tell when' s the last time

Prosey - Clouds

PROVIDENCE
Who am i to question morning sunlight creeping in on a silvery wand of another day's dawning?

And what am i doing dousing the dew on the wildflowers with wet awestruck gasps?

Later, as the azure angels wring out
their weather won raindrops, to tee shirts waving in slight breezes from wooden clothes pin clips

I sigh, waiting for rainbow colors to arc across and i make a wish for today's providence to bless us all.
But these clouds are clearly foreign, such an exotic clutter against the blue cloth of the sky, i muse.

If there's a heaven sublime
Waiting and rewarding

August in T&T, begins with celebration of freedom; freedom from the chains of chattel awareness, freedom to claim the dignity and status of all mankind - human.
With drum songs and dancing feet, flambeau and Canboulay flames lighting the paths of future days.
A public festival of pre Covid19 eras halts today to the tune of Lockdown season and curfew hours. The feasting and festivity is tamed to family stay home  numbers.

Days progress to weeks of August. Heads cool to swell with pride of  nationhood; as Trinidad and Tobago ends August on the note of Happy Independence.
