Monday WRites 81

THERE BE WISE PUMPKINS TOO
There was a pumpkin round and smart
The light he craved from his very start
He wobbled and shifted
Until indeed was sighted
And brought home from the vegetable mart

COUNT HALOWEEN VAMP
There was a vampire twisted and dead
Lay in a coffin so lucid stories read
A maiden's neck alack
For him held no slack
Dammed he to lust of sweets instead

DIVALI FLICKERS
To stir love's pot with lamps of clay
Night shifts from day
Tiny flickers
These are stickers

The adventures of light and dark
Have sealed its mark
Firmly affixed
Truth here it sticks

Good-over-evil weaves a tale
threads never frail
Bind devotees
At Divali

NEUTRAL GREY
Suddenly they take to the air
pigeons of grey
with a stutter
with a flutter

Not flashy like friend kiskadee
they like to be
more like friend dove
the boon of love

The don their somber coats to bear
neutral wear
archetypal
acoustical

MOON POESY
What a large large moon i exclaimed
To the offering of a night sky long planned

A stunning moon greeted my stares
From a distance still to me unfathomable

When that bright moon seared my thoughts
I stared in wonder for this was a night

A moonlit course of opening my heart
To the shadowy foibles encased in poesy

Is there ever a moon on high not loving
A poet's soul not witholding a swooning

Monday WRites 80

BRAND NEW
Tell me Monday
Are you beginning
Are you playing second fiddle
Do you even care

Says Monday:
Like it or not here i come
With my blues
My weekend hang overs
And unfinished homework

Tardy last minute finishers
Fresh spruce starters
Here we-go-again yawners
All this, and more I am

Monday -
Of the "new" work week
Of the "new" school week
Sunday's rest is over!

SOUND OF THE WIND
blowing in the wind
myths and fables, grins and sighs -
autumn leaves curling

Earth spews up colour, her hue and ray, mocking the sunshine come what may, many are leaving so much to say, change is a coming a cold white day. Carve you sins to suits of grey, shelter whims in stacks of hay, reaper hands a harvest brings to weigh, colour appetites to supplications essay.

Kerry Says ~ It's Blowing in the Wind
the challenge from Kerry: to select a line or lines from the work of Bob Dylan - 'Blowing In The Wind', and use it as the spring-board for a poem. The words themselves do not have to be included in the body of the poem, but merely as a reference,

A SLOPPY FLOPPY HALLOWEEN TALE
Her broom she sweeps, a careless witch,
While others of her sisters swoop, across
Moons many, and a thousand stars

Her spells she forgets, her incantations,
Get warped, because she refuses to practice;
A lazy witch, all the fun will miss

Come the night of pumpkin grins,
Eerie ghostly shadowing, and
Ghastly howling wicked winds

Tis Halloween, she sweeps her tears
In languid strokes, next year for sure,
Her broom she vows, is going for a ride.

CHEUPS
her cellphone is ringing
teen missy wearing school uniform
not unusual, she is sitting
in a taxi, in this age of inform

she answers ...yeah but
to a sharp unheard barrage
...yeah but
to more of the umbrage
...yeah but

she sucks her teeth - cheups
click!!!
now she is pouting, no one snoops

unknown characters
awaiting dreamer's name games ...
cloud-clump morning sky

Glossary

[supermoon wall paper from google dot com]

SUPERMOON
silent in her awesome grandeur, supermoon
she holds my attention with such ease
i join her in signing an unspoken tune
and watch as she charms night shadows
for here she is again in grandeur, supermoon
bold enough, she shames the night globes
turned on to showings of short-lived swoon
for moon is chameleon, and mistress of shaping
cloud, sky, and human wandering strewn
she who courts the sky and tides of oceans too
wide girth this night in awesome grandeur, supermoon
SUPERMOON © gillena cox 2016

Glossary
When the Earth, sun and moon line up during the ‘perigee’ side of the lunar orbit, we get a ‘perigee moon’ or supermoon...Perigee full moons can appear up to 14 percent bigger and 30 brighter than apogee full moons, and often create the optical illusion of a ‘low-hanging’ moon.

Apogee and perigee refer to the distance from the Earth to the moon.

SWEET SWEET OCTOBER
There there, i see you, afro-haloed;
it is the month of October,
i garland your neck with
imaginary kisses, futuristic whimsies;
later though, we do kiss.

There there, i see a sky, chock full of clouds,
In the afternoon traffic,
Ah! i say to our boy (though a man now),
The angels, surely are rejoicing,

swaddled new baby -
the flashing of cell phone clicks
and granma kisses

THE CASTLE GATE BOLTED
She is an ugly old witch
Whose heart is dark like sound of void
Whose lips are cold without lullaby
Whose nose smells dank rot of nearby bog

When the time comes for her beautiful daughter
To go into the world of paper files and pencil
To grab her handbag and stalk her high heels
To ride the bus pass sugarcane arrow fields

The wicked witch will have none of that
No princess leaves this castle this day
So she sleeps with her husband and begets a child
A boy small and tender and wailing as babies do

Here she says to the princess, this is your job
Take care of this baby, bottle feed his crying lips
Then off she goes the wicked witch
To look at herself in a shiny pot spoon

pink pomerac blooms -
the neighbour's dog delights in
chasing his own tail

EVENING RAPPORT

WIND
Splashes of gold light fading day,
Where are all the bird songs going?
Feathered fun has left the wind,
To console silhouettes at shadow play;

MOON
Silence wind, tis time of slumber
When friend stars, in rust tipped humour,
Play at nighttime sparkle .

ON A BROOMSTICK VIEWING
Face of reality torn,
From a book paged everyday drudgery,
The Phantom of the Opera sings;
To a night of masks,
From witches to fairies,
To bones macabre;
Let him write me a broomstick;
For to fly, far out -
Pumpkin viewing, carrying,
Light of star and moon.

“Our language has wisely sensed the two sides of being alone. It has created the word “loneliness” to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word “solitude” to express the glory of being alone.”
-– Paul Johannes Tillich

SOLITUDE
Deep in the chamber of solitude curled
A ring-gg ring-gg softly charms air furled
Yet not, do the tone to mind or ear reach
For far to low, chasm of solitude seeks
To court absolute attention to its bliss;
Thus being satiated in being alone, solitude
Is an amorous lover, jealous of intrusion
No telephone tones, nor voices calling
Can mar the perfect tide of flowing free
Thoughts, ideas, colours, on a clear sea
Calm waves ripple, in syllables uncharted
Traversing to an ocean wide and deep enough
To absorb, light, liquidity, and vastness

GOLDEN TRANSITIONS
When golden clouds call, come
And you stand transfixed to some;

Glorious, inexplicable, ordinary
Eventide drama of a sky, so very

Coquettish in exiting, it leaves
A taste of yearning, and cleaves

To palate of somber silhouettes,
Waiting to embrace sleep pirouettes,

Maybe long after it has vanished,
A blend of wine to lips, a tryst

Instead, seductive souls do savour,
Insomniac sheep, naught to favour.

HOLD PLEASE
Hold please!
Can, it take one more?
So the doors half-closing
Open one more,
Once squeezed inside,
I reflect on the faces
I noticed
From the outside;
Blank
Expressions
Fill the elevator,
Lucky some heart was
Warm enough to press
The hold button;
Phew!
It would have been
Waiting
Like eternity
For another lift
