NICOTIANA TABACUM
So what shall we do now with her
That broad-leafed gifted allure
That nature shaped so lovingly
Why use, then deem her so impure

She's certainly no poison ivy
To that for sure we are all privy
Furling boldly through air drafts
Nor is she Venus Fly Trap livey

Why reap to smoke her anyway
Is she good for anything, touché
Fodder, insect repellent, healing
She is so much abused now-a-day

Does she have a place in paradise
Where fairy and elf can share a nice
Shade from Eden's sun a-blazing
Why do we not offer to her a reprise

SHE LIVED IN THAT SHOE?
She has bought a shoe store down the street
Kids all grown now, you are in for a treat
One's a baker, one a tailor, and a few, astronauts
She turned The Shoe into a museum, quite a feat

She has lived in meter, aged with rhyme and grace
With wit and humour thus, she kept her place
Outliving princesses of tresses let down in abandon
Bare cupboards are now for viewers, never in haste.

WARRIOR STEP
Though moon be full and bright, like orbs of one-eyed monsters to sight, and scent of jasmines ride the waves, of night's silence in heaves, still they chip, snip and carry; knowing, sensing, choosing the reds rather than the yellows. Step purposefully lass! they can pinch at your manicured toes, they aim to make you scream. They can steal your joy, but only, if you let them.

Of Angels and Monsters

Note
In T&T, we call the leaf cutter ants - Bachacs

Given seven pop culture quotes that have to do with angels, monsters or both. Rommy challenged us to pick one and create a poem based on it; the poem does not have to specifically be about an angel or a monster, but it must have some relation to at least one of the quotes.
I chose
“I’m the thing monsters have nightmares about.” – Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

POUI BLOOMING
In stable thirst of dry days you stood,
Stately green, quietly patient as you could ;
While gaily flew kites on windy sky,
There you, showing only green without a sigh;
Like monks stoic, in zen understanding;
Who would deem, your elation pending;
Ah, but gentle tears of heaven alone know,
How easily, such caring, would make you glow;
So lent her thus, gently, to soft drizzling night,
And you, to daylight blooming, awesome sight.

HOLES
The wall clock is round, but, the holes in the lacy table centerpiece were hooked in, with the art of crochet; my grandma taught me about chains and trebles; she slipped through the hole of existence, gone to the other side, quite a long time ago and I'm still looping these tiny bits of nuances together, lacing her memory into beautiful reminders.

THE BICYCLE
Two wheels
their spinning magic
and soft whirring

took me to kindergarten one day
the green dots
dotted a white cotton dress

My father rode his bike
in poverty
proud
way back then

WORDS FIND ME
I’m here and there, when words find me,
Ink scrambles, flowing thoughts on doodles,
Though leaves have uncanny sense to flee,
Phrase bound are motifs smooth and serrated;
Games of catch and hold, when words find me,
Frieze syllable by syllable, undressing memory,
Bared to whispering wind or howling banshee ,
Thoroughly shredding paper past and future;
Ensnared are shackled twigs to tree,
Sunlight strums, so symphonies can shuffle,
Silhouettes, add depth of form when words find me

Monday WRites 108

TODAY IS SPROUTING
In furls of my joy,
And flavour of my skin,
Therein, dwell tiny atoms of divine.

Tis grace, by which dawn is gifted,
Daily to tug at ribbons of sun rays,
Unwrapping hieroglyphics in bird song.

Daily, awe breathes sweet scent
Of bee's hum.
Life sparkle of leftover night stars,
Sprinkle gardens with gratitude.

Thanksgiving blossoms by every hue and tint.

MAKING MYTHS [4] DRAGON
It all started at the edge of earth, where man and beasts lived together, each keeping to their own kind, a very long time ago. When one day: in sauntered Dragon, strutting his scales and fire belly.

Then up comes The Steal-er who shouts, looking him up. "Who do you think you are? stalking through my town, proud, dragon-proud" Dragon retorts: looking him down. "Where? are, my treasures, you thief! you scalywag! Where are my gold, my diamonds, my rubies and sapphires? You take my things without a care" "Shut your mouth! You fire-spewing-reptilian-whatever." Shouted The Steal-er.

And so, the fire dragon inhaled, keeping his fire. He stood there, at the edge of the earth just smirking. Earth started getting warmer and warmer and warmer. (He is still standing there, smirking) Today, folks all over the globe, are everyday, talking about global warming.

NUTMEG ICE CREAM
I'm being self-centred now
The guy across the table from mine
Keeps salting his beer

The taste of nutmeg ice-cream
Mutes my palette so I hear
Only the rhythms of my heart

Light sparkles across the water
Of the bay down below
In competition with the banana boats

My thoughts meander
Across the water riding each ripple
Just for this evening

In a New Banana Town - population: you
I refuse to return a smile
To anyone especially a stranger

Monday WRites 107

HASH TAG
When I was a child:
Tomorrow was always stored
In a box labelled 'Certain'
Sky was in the 'Blue Box '
Clouds fitted nicely into 'White And Fluffy'

Years later, someone did some sort of re-filing:
Labelled 'Perhaps', that's where you find futures,
Paper-clipped to tomorrows.
The Blue Box still exists, but now,
There are sticky notes to sky.
One of which is phenomena
Hash tag #events
To find Clouds, one must shuffle through:
God, Cirrus, Cumulus, Ominous,
Tempests, Dreamy and Dragon.

Even if you are using your computer;
The present day process,
Is still that complicated #gruelling.

HIS PALETTE
I have seen clouds like these
Pink, in the late dawn sky.
Creeping through the trees
Still dressed in silhouettes.

Al the while the twitter-ers
The chirpers and the whistlers
Are sounding choruses of light
Singing of olden dreams
Singing of future hope

I have seen clouds like these
Pink, in the late dawn sky.
I often wonder, where does God
Hide his palette? is it
At the end of his rainbows

A WILDFLOWER BLOSSOMS
It’s all there the heartbreaking issues
Of how a father loses mind and heart
And kills a child

There too the scandals in features
One man takes another to wed
To bed

For shame the terrorist who shuns freedom
To riddle his bullets in serious
Disasters

The media, mass today generates
So much heartbreak for us
To bear

Least a wildflower blossoms sweetly so
There's non but the poet
Such news to scatter

Monday WRites 106

GOOD MORNING MAY
May greets me with mild morning light
And bird hymn twitter-ings

May greets me in the solace of
Curtains drawn letting in the life of day

May greets me in proclamations of trust
Of what really do birds sing?

May greets me to contemplation
And why? with stealth of light day slips in

May greets me to yearning for
Sahara dust clouds to drink from oceans

May greets me with the task of remembering
What is it like again? the sound of raindrops.
