Just around the corner is the calypsonian
The kaiso man; guitar strumming, pan beating,
Heart smiling, teasing singer-man.

Everybody's business, is his business.
Politician, hornerman, priest and warner woman prophetess.
Listen to the calypso man.
He, better than reading any newspaper.

He, is who tells all.
Sordid, witty, serious or risque.
He, tells all, all.
Yeah for Octobers !
If only to remember the old greats, the sing-it-all griots of old.

#Calypso music first emerged in the eighteenth century in Trinidad among communities of African slaves. The musical style was an evolution of West African kaiso, and the satirical lyrics often mocked slave masters through double entendre.

Father of this nation

Your words still echo

To the children shut in

Because of the Covid 19

That their book bags carry

The future of a society

That is T&T

Tap your key boards young ones

Zoom your home-works

Pay attention to your studies

He must be smiling over them.

Quadrille # 137: Throwing Poem Stones
Along a stony path a mocking bird skips
Stopping now and then when her beak dips
Insects caught between crevasses
Hinder  not her hunger, she passes
Gingerly knowing there they live
Her feathers a preening she will give
Thence evening roosting flight her motive

TO EVERY SEASON

Bird songs: a raucous time before sunrise

Advent: coloured candles in the wreath lit Sundays before Christmas

Pandemic world: everyone is coaxed into taking the vaccine

Anticipation does have its season.

The page is white. The page is lined. The page is made for writing on. Pencil, pen, markers will do.
Oh!  Did i mention the page is lined. Guess i did. Who am i kidding. I have nothing going on up in my head. So the page is white with lines.
I should write something. Or maybe not today. Maybe tomorrow. When the moon wanes in the morning sky. Not a bad start to something.
What will it be? That nice new clear see through ball point. Blue ink. I remember specifically asking for blue ink.  Oh well there's always tomorrow when a poem rears its beautiful head.

CORONA COCOON

To dawn i bow in deep respect

The action of hope in effect

 Again engines are rumbling

The wheels of industry turning

Traffic jams in the streets piling

Return to old can we accept

The new normal landed for sure

Oh it was so quiet before

When we hid in our homes or

Just stayed indoors because we wept

Family and friends swept away

A wave called corona keeps all at bay

Yet  with vaccine and caution may

We creep out of cocoon adept
