[last train to San Fernando photo from Google]
One day the train
Chugged along its rails
And rested
Never again to whistle
Clank or chug
Then the buses rolled
With people kids and goods
The way things change
After long long semesters

I think we should use railways and canals more, and forget about lorries and airfreight, Gillena. I miss the old trains.

I have recently started taking the train to the city, three hour trek due to issues driving. It's quite enjoyable. Nostalgic poem.

Transportation in our lifetime has seen many changes for sure! Trains still carry a lot of freight here.

We do not own a car. Have not owned one since we moved to Boston in 1997. Even here, when we spend winter's Jan/Feb/and early March in San Diego, California, we have senior bus passes and either take public transportation or walk. We use the train system a lot in Boston. Recently took the train to New York City rather than flying. I wish the states would put more money in to the rail system as they have in Europe and other countries.

I met someone in Sydney about a decade ago, who had to go to school by seaplane each day (back in the 40s or 50s). As a kid that would feel amazing (at least for a while!)

Wonderful poem, Gillena. I often wonder why train travel fell out of favor
