John Sloan, Sun and Wind on the Roof
WHAT THE WIND TOOK
Tis a fierce wind that blows from the roof top,
And she no gentle maiden struggles, to
Keep a balance of pride and fortitude.
For what more has she to lose? left behind
Barefooted and aloof on a roof, to
Pin these garments cleansed of yesterdays dole,
When she mothered him, along with her child.
She should have let go of him a long time,
Like those slippers were, cast off to the wind.
What was he father? what was he a husband ?
What was he? she asks herself, and the wind,
Blew and blew that day, so that her slippers off and flew away.

Never have we seen this scenarios since Hitler drafted children at the end of the war. Our GI's fought old men and children, and it broke their hearts.

The wind takes so many things but sadly not the sorrow, which is left behind :( Beautiful poem, Gillena.
