REMBERING PEACHES AND A VACATION
In the bigness of the Apple city
Walking down some street
Where fruit sellers are
I stop to purchase
Peaches
Seen them in the movies before
Read them in books before
And now here i am in NY city
Buying Peaches
Reaching indoors
I wash them
And bite into a yummy hidden yellowness
My first taste of
Peaches
I eat them every day
What's a vacation for
If not to eat
Peaches
When i return home where
Summer cyah done
There will be watermelons
Green variegated thick skins
And sweet crunchy red flesh
I will keep cool then, eating
Watermelon slices.

I love peaches! Unfortunately, I can't eat them raw due to an allergic reaction, but they are in my favorite pie. I could taste them here.

Peaches at the Big Apple! How nice Gillena!Certainly a memorable vacation that will sustain for a long time. Hank used to get discounted tickets for Broadway at the World Trade Centre then. Enjoyed NYC! It has everything!

A great poem Gillena. You make me hungry for the delectable sweetness of fresh peaches. Watermelon is not too bad either! Yum.

Lovely. Nice visual of peaches in the big apple. It made me appreciate the fruits of our area. I love making a peach and blueberry crisp when in season.

Along with our annual trip to the apple orchard, we also had a day set aside to visit the peach orchard to buy a bushel or two for mother to can. Now I'm longing to peach pie!!!

I love that despite the fact that we now send fruits all over the world, there is nothing like fruit not travelling far from where it is picked.

Gillena,
ReplyDeleteInteresting how we associate food with places we've been, i guess because all our senses are at work adjusting to new sights and sensations. You bring all this to life with your words. Well done.
