FUN IN THE SUN
White and frilly, frilly and white;
Monday's costume, come Tuesday,
Will drip with colours, of
Last day excitement, competition,
Frenzy, fanciful and inexorable.
Swaying to rhythms of this kaiso
And that kaiso and yet another,
In the hot, hot, sun;
Which masqueraders have immunity to,
For two whole days.
Ash Wednesday ashes might soothe the soul but,
It never erases the fun of Carnival days.

  1. "In the hot, hot, sun;
    Which masqueraders have immunity to,
    For two whole days." Thank you for this lovely memory and truth, for the picture of you as celebrant. Oh, I am so grateful that you brought this wonderful poem full of carnival to us today! And as usual, I love the music.

  12. In answer to MMT I would guess that embracing a religion that assures believers that all will OK when they die is surely knowledge that can be celebrated in every way possible...perhaps we all should join in too!

  16. I enjoyed your fun in the sun, Gillena. The only carnivals I have ever been to were in Cologne and Notting Hill. These lines fizz with fun:
    ‘Frenzy, fanciful and inexorable.
    Swaying to rhythms of this kaiso’.
