The scent of freshly baked bread

Is like a dream you don't want to wake from

You'd rather break bread

Than cut it with a knife

Fingers might get burned

But you don't mind

Butter somehow behaves better

It seeps right into the rich texture

Yummy

Teeth knows the drill

Bite like there's no tomorrow

Chew swallow

Feel good

  1. I love the circularity of your poem, Gillena, like a traditional round loaf, beginning and ending with the simile: ‘scent of freshly baked bread… a dream you don't want to wake from’, and I agree about breaking bread rather than cutting it.

  4. The opening lines describe the kind of effect that aroma of bread has on one so well! Gorgeously rendered, Gillena 🩷🩷

  6. I'm with you on that one Gillena - bread is the best (with lashings of butter!)
