THIS DROUGHT
Two A.M. i stir spoonfuls of longing into this drought
This cup of hot days, arid and dry as coconut brittle
Even the bird songs refuse the scherzando as they ought
They trill the dawn, then rest and hide from the scorching
Savouring dawn, stirring spoonfuls of longing into this drought
Ah for the wildflowers showery, and brash in spontaneity
Caring neither for rock nor rill, nor earthworms of any sort
I look back to long ago when hot days were not so scorching
Back then, talk of climate change, we shelved as we bought
Never understanding the intensity of future torrid days
Thus, two A.M. i stir spoonfuls of longing in this drought

Tis the Season of Easter and here in T&T while we delight in the blossoming Poui trees and the returning alleluias, it is extremely hot, folks say it hotter than many years ago and i agree, i remember a less intense dry season heat, without the Sahara Dust, when i was a child

When we had our drought here in CA it was awful and sad to see everything struggling including the animals. I'm so thankful for last and this year's rain breaking the back of our long ass drought. I feel for you my friend but it could improve as it did here.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I do believe in global warming or messed up weather because of what we're doing to the air quality all over the world. Let's not forget the nuclear reaction cooking in the ocean off Japan invading my air as we speak. The spring flowers remind me of hope. Here's to hope on this fine Monday my far-away friend. Hugs and kisses!
Thanks for your appreciation Bekkie.

Gillena - unfortunately, severe weather is everywhere and strong sign of climate change. We still have a chance to reverse the damage we have done, but time will eventually run out. Thanks for sharing such a thoughtful, heartfelt poem with everyone at Mosaic Monday.

We've been lucky this spring to have several showers. I hear it is going to be a long hot summer to come. I hope there aren't as many bad fires this year. - Margy
