SUFFRAGE
Pins and needles, hat box glove
She speaks her language, as she knows how
But give her the right, her finger to stain
A much better balance now sustains

  2. I love how you have used some of the more traditional tools of womanhood - needles and pins- to illustrate the power of their vote - skilfully and eloquently written

  7. Thankfully women won the right to vote - a much better balance indeed. I, too, liked the reference to older passtimes like sewing, wearing gloves etc. from my grandma's day.

  8. For millennia the role of women was belittled because it was so important. It is amazing that it took so long to recognize the equal partnership and even longer for universal suffrage which is still not yet universally. One day perhaps.

  11. How wonderfully succinctly you sum up the movement of the suffragettes, Gillena. Balance being the magic word!
