Monumental
Standing in the sun,
Standing in the rain,
Lucky you;
We have no winters,
We have no Autumns,
To freeze you,
Or make you colour shame.
You stand proud,
For the value of service,
And every year,
They come bowing,
Bringing garlands,
To the memory of,
Our fallen braves.

Gillena, why can't we honor living as much as we do the dead? Evocative writing and observations on memorial statues for war dead.

Very nicely done, Gillena. I like how you speak to/about the statue standing in all kinds of weather!

I like how the title lends magnitude before even reading the poem, Gillena, how you address the statue in the opening lines, and then reveal why it is so important in the second stanza.
