UNREQUITED

A sword it was to strike at the heart

Sharp, swift in mercy, no glint of light

How can a season of rain torrent through

To the silence, without the warning thunder

Yet, there it be; fixed, pinned to heartbreak

That foolish allusion of love; unrequited offerings

To underserved  stalwarts of selfish worth

Pierced, friezed,  a sacred monument of dotish pleasure

No lamb, no sacrifice

Only pain, angst, and longing nailed

To a parapet of learning.

Regrets are wasted in continuous flow of life's river

  3. Your last line is killer. I liked "Yet, there it be, fixed, pinned to heartbreak."

  4. Unrequited love is perhaps the most intense of them all because the mind conjures so much to embellish it with false hope.

  5. The last line is so true...we must never let ourselves wallow in regret.

  7. As others have said, your last line says it all. The river flows, never looks back, accepting all the rubbish it carries with it. We try to be selective, but our past is always with us.

  10. The painting is luscious … as are your words. Regrets we have them, we hopefully move beyond them.

  12. That seems to be the only salvageable part of such pain: a lesson learned. Well done, Gillena.
