PELAU IN D' BASKET

In her backyard garden one pigeon pea shrub scrubbed the wall as the wind blew

A lazy housewife, no not she, she served her husband more so, as her children grew

Aurora and her girl pals, planned to go watch the masquerade bands
Sitting under the covered stands

In her basket a pot of tasty pelau
With the pigen peas she picked from her garden she cooked

She knew nothing of Reine des Glaces
Her salad was of locally grown leaves of lettuce

This was Port of Spain Trinidad after all,
She had bought her greens from a farmer's stall

  1. I like how the pea shrub "scrubbed the wall" in the wind.

  2. Homegrown is best. Nice that she makes a nice meal for her husband then goes off with her friends to relax :)

  3. Great to have a local twist on this. I have a vivid image of this woman in my mind, now - children grown, husband fed - throws food together casually because she's done it so often, but it's the best food you'll ever eat - laughs a lot.

  11. The way to her husband's care and good feelings is the food she dished out. Reality well acknowledged, gillena!
