MUSEUM
Being fitted for a new look, I once saw her;
iron scaffolding leaned against her,
façade: brushes daubing a brightness to her,
and all the while, she was quietly peeping
through the bustle admiring the flowering
trees in Memorial Park.
Royal. please address her.
The Royal Victoria Institute
(National Museum and Art Gallery)
Port of Spain, Trinidad, that's her.
History lurks within shadows of her
cramped space and labels file her:
amerindian, Cazabon, bones, folklore.
Visiting footsteps and gapes remain within her
adding richness of legacy and heritage to her.

I love the personification, how she is gazing at her surroundings. The effect is multi-layered--a museum with contents expanded by location and by the visitors themselves. Bravo!

Nice. I like how she peeps at the trees, and the people too I imagine. You brought her to life, though she harbors history that's gone.

Oh beauty! The lady relates the history and the cultural fabric of the past and the present so artistically...As Jae said, ‘she brought the museum to life’.
ReplyDeleteLovely read, Gellina.

Hi Gillena, it is nice to read your "Voices" again. I have tried before from a comment you would leave on Bjorn's and others but was denied access.
ReplyDeleteYour Royal Victoria Institute sounds very interesting, if I come to Trinidad I would like visit there. My SIL has lost his dual citizenship but is trying to get Trinidadian back again. He and my daughter have a little land there to build a retirement home.
..
Happy you dropped by Jim hope your son in law gets his Trinidadian back
