PONDERING PEACE
Peace where sky meets sea
When rainbows glow a plenty
And war a forgotten history like
Misted mornings hiding mountains

Hands to hold walking together
Smiles to savour from hour to hour
How this dream awakens desires
Hope in still many eras to consider

Respect and understanding bow
In meeting holding gazes steadfast
Love and honour marry freely
For off springs of generations foretold

Sleeping butterfly wings grow strong till
Time to come forth victory is already won

  1. I love the image of the butterfly wings. The reader is willing those wings to get strong to take Peace's flight.

Hugs to you from the moon

  2. This is very beautiful, Gillena. When one stands at the edge of the sea, the world feels a peaceful place.

  3. I stopped to drink in the first stanza before reading the rest .. wow. There at the edge of the sea, it seems possible to have this:
"And war a forgotten history like
Misted mornings hiding mountains" and when mountains are revealed again, the pondering comes to good purpose. Respect and understanding, and then love and honor--what possibilities these marriages bring! The rest can follow. A most gorgeous sonnet!

  5. "...war a forgotten history"...What a cherished dream this is! Your poem does ring in "thousand years of peace" Gillena. How I wish to see 'this' butterfly before I finally close my eyes. A most beautiful poem.

  6. Our very primitive ancestors so they say, emerged from the sea millions of years ago and for some reason we have this strange longing when we go back to the beaach again...or so the story goes! However it makes for great poetry.
