[mountain and cloudscape West Moorings Trinidad 2007]

MOUNTAIN
Face to the mountain, a sunset for sure
Now a contest of lights ensue
In shades of fading grey is night's allure
Clearing a path for bird songs is the mist
In a short span, again, a sunset for sure
But on foggy groggy rain-filled days, she hides
Then returns to seek a smile on faces demure
Who steals a mountain? not even a Grinch
For fear of those voluminous seated cloud secure
In the midst of an evening reverie
Standing again to ponder, a sunset for sure

  1. I too prefer the sun appear for its setting, prefer it be "a sunset for sure." And now that song! But one can get high on life and work and play and each other, especially on such a beautiful mountain.

  5. It is good to hide on 'foggy groggy rain-filled days' - great line! But always the mountain shines - it looks beautiful

  8. I love how you place a smile on the Mountain as sometimes clouds and fog try to hide it's beauty. I loved this! thanks.

  10. When you think of all the beauty the mountains provide it's hard not to love them (and miss them when they are hiding.)

  14. I enjoyed hearing you read this today at the d'Verse live event. I was smiling because over my shoulder in the camera was my mountain! It was good to hear another poet speak of their mountain.

  16. It was great to hear you read this Gillena. I love the tribute to sunsets, a strong refrain, which hear seesm to speak to both beauty and assurance.
