DOG DAYS
Wave after wave of sultry humid winds
Sweep dry dust of morning long and hot

Gathering particles of time in swift ardor
Wave after wave of sultry humid winds

Dog days trounced to crisp and crackle
Sweep dry dust of morning long and hot

Drawing sweat these tawdry sun rays
Gathering particles of time in swift ardor

Drought encumbent near driftwood poses
Dog days trounced to crisp and crackle

Returning waters lick barefoot toes
Drawing sweat these tawdry sun rays

Drought encumbent near driftwood poses
Returning waters lick barefoot toes

  2. Yes, wave after wave has that sense of the relentless doesn't it? You use repeating refrains to good effect!

  3. On those "crisp and crackling" dog days nothing refreshes like the sea. It's as if heat wave meets the water--water that, thankfully, still loves us and wants to play. The dog is the heat, the dog is the water! Bravo!

  7. Gillena,

I sense that you enjoy having access to the sea, especially on days in a heatwave. It is the place to try and find cooling comfort...The solace from the lapping waves. Here in the UK, we await even regular temperatures for May; heatwaves are a long way off!!

  12. You describe those dog days well. There's nothing like a lick on the toes by the ocean to make them bearable. Good write Gillena.

  14. When the body is uncomfortable the soul cannot rest...thank heavens we have cool waves to lap at our toes and provide temporary relief from those dog days
