"Orchard in Spring” by Alfred Sisley (1881)
courtesy dVerse Poetry Pub

New Clothes
When sentinel poui changes her clothing
From all green to an all pink thing

Know that sovereign Easter is near
Our Caribbean nuance of Spring

With silver smiles of resurrection
Of renewal therefore sing

Pink poui has changed her garb
And that's a wonderful thing

Suitor by Lawrence Alma-tadema from a google search

Flippant Suitor

To where do rosebuds traverse

If not in the sequence of verse

In the intentions of our universe

Already fixed to no reverse

Why then suitor, romancer, do worse

Than a heart wounded or curse

As bended knee rises another to converse

With same adoration so perverse

AMBROSIA NIGHTS
Nights were, when the calming scent of Ambrosia
Wrapped me like skin, cuddling like moon perimeters

Keeping me secured and enlightened stayed confined
My thoughts never drifted beyond the sound of breath

My heart was light with giggles and laughter, heady
As if consumed of wine in long stem glasses, cheers!

My wishes were pasted to eternity stretching into
Unknown places sensed in the sensuality of moment

Etched in the echoes of time silent and unwavering
You held me tenderly you were scented in Ambrosia

THUS I RISE
How will history remember me?
Will history remember me at all?

As fliting blue tanager, blue jean?
Skittish dove pink footed on a wall?

Anguish of being flown from the nest?
Held in the arms of a loving guiding God?

Where a book-full of faith
Offered teaspoons of solace?

When one rosebud, tight, unopened,
Held the blooming of family - of love?

Now knowing love, must disappointment
Smile her taunts of desertion?

And smiles repay taunts for sake of faith
And again, again, those teaspoons of solace?

But looking forward to history's appeal,
I rise, to offer, a no-regrets-plea.

Just the savour of teaspoons of solace,
From a book-full of faith.

JOY ABIDING
There really is this place abiding
Unicorn strides direct joy to everyday

No summer's heat or winter's snow
Joy above upholds moon's curved sky

A flourish, for air breathes happily
Weep of joy blossom from Poui Tree

And clouds reflect in rainbow arc
Again such joy as have come to pass

Monday WRites 106

GOOD MORNING MAY
May greets me with mild morning light
And bird hymn twitter-ings

May greets me in the solace of
Curtains drawn letting in the life of day

May greets me in proclamations of trust
Of what really do birds sing?

May greets me to contemplation
And why? with stealth of light day slips in

May greets me to yearning for
Sahara dust clouds to drink from oceans

May greets me with the task of remembering
What is it like again? the sound of raindrops.

MATTIE
she's on that darn bicycle again
this time she wears a purple hat

a purple lace fascinator droops
over her determined charcoal face

a charcoal face with lion-green eyes
her gold bracelet glistens the sunlight

the gold bracelet her daddy gave her
gifted to her on her fifteenth birthday

an inscribed gift, branding, ownership tag
like they did at the slave auction long ago

today she was determined
she would raise that fascinator

look upon his closed lion-green eyes one last time
and whisper, "daddy, i too, am your daughter".

Process Note

After reading a few days ago Candy Don't Come In Gray by Roslyn Carrington, and attending a meet-the-author session with my book club; i was inspired to write this poem about my favourite character in the book 'MATTIE'. This poem is not saying that this is all there is to Roslyn's Mattie, but rather my impression, meeting and observing Mattie in a very brief encounter in one of the chapters of the book. I'm sharing in response to Fireblossom's prompt

MOON POESY
What a large large moon i exclaimed
To the offering of a night sky long planned

A stunning moon greeted my stares
From a distance still to me unfathomable

When that bright moon seared my thoughts
I stared in wonder for this was a night

A moonlit course of opening my heart
To the shadowy foibles encased in poesy

Is there ever a moon on high not loving
A poet's soul not witholding a swooning

SOUL MATES
Before our skins touched the breath of our pores
Before our mouths echoed a creation of commands

There you were in cloud of dreamscape
There you were your face in my minds eye

Asleep i slumbered snugly in your ethereal arms
Asleep i smelled your fragrant sweet eternal being

You became the cliche, the end to my sentences
You became the dew for fresh new mornings

We etched the sunset into our empty recognition
We etched the horizon out for changed landscape

How then can i let you go, for what more
How then can i say goodbye, when my love stays

CHICKENED OUT
We joined the queue
It was quite a long queue

I was adamant. Yes I replied
Let's join the queue

We were going to meet the gypsy
So we joined the queue

Brixton market, there we were
Balmy weather, us in the queue

We moved up a bit, a slow crawl
Seemed never ending, this queue

There she was reading a palm
After a long wait in the queue

We could see her now
From our place in the queue

Aw let's go, I change my mind. So
after all this time we left the queue
