Monday WRites 226

YEAR END FOLD
Another door is closing,
This time, twenty nineteen
Cannot venture back in,
Except of course, by way of
Memories; a door is closing
A new decade is upon us
This can only be reassuring
If we are ready, are we ready?
Anything at door jamb stopping
This closure must be removed,
Indeed another door is closing.

Christmas for me this year was Morning mass, coffee, fruit smoothie (i had had the start of a root canal procedure on 19th December so i was having soups and other such liquid foods not chewing and taking meds). WhatS App greetings, The start of my Twelve day of Christmas 2019-2020 at my blog Lunch Break and The start of my Facebook event Gifts of haiku for Baby Jesus 2019-2020. I had lunch (since my med finished on Christmas Eve i had a little wine and had some solid soft things so i chewed) with my daughter at her place we exchange gifts and chatted and looked at TV then back home. We spoke on the phone but, i haven't seen my son and my granddaughter yet for the season.

[my Christmas Tree 2019 decorated]

She smiles as the box in the corner shifts and moves. She smiles her synthetic spikey smile. Yup she says in her spindly thoughts, it must be nearing the end of September. After all this is Trinidad, of the twin island state Trinidad and Tobago. Where Parang swells the air waves of Sweet One Hundred FM in a one hundred days celebration of Christmas music, with emphasis on the local songs. When shac shac, mandolin box bass and guitar, harmonize to sweet 'serenals'. A peep of sunlight, Yes she exclaims the box is opening, just as i thought, dress up time.

QUADRILLE - GLOW
A warm glow of expectancy,
a knowing of what is already revealed,
keeps coming back,
the affirming, the waiting once more,
is worth the hope of the human heart,
cleansed to fill itself of love,
for one another,

For His sake and our reward.

[The ' Basket of Bread ' by Salvador Dali from Bing dot com]

AWAY FROM HOME
Back home a wife early in labour
Listen! A cow is screaming across the arroyo

They do their utmost but doc must come
Thrown into action the household women lend a hand

A speedy horse across fields become
A messenger an angel hoofbeats a distant drum

The ranchers weather well the wild storm
Injured cowboys and frightened strays all are back in form

A cable reads of a new born boy
Still though at the trading post prices now to inform

His dad must buy him a brand new toy
While the others will smoke cigars and toast his new joy

Process Note
Inspired by my currently reading of Tracie Peterson 'Taming The Wind' this poem has evolved to include the line
"A cow is screaming across the arroyo" from Jim Harrison 'Cow' which is the prompt at dVerse prompt 9.12.2019 and fitted into the form Landay prompted by Sanaa at Real Toads 9.12.2019

Monday WRites 223

[my 2nd week of Advent table centerpiece]

My November 2019 perks of joy came in celebration at 2 events. Firstly; reading of 'Anansi An Unusual Experience' published by authourhouse this year, at the library near me. I am ever grateful to the library staff for making this happen.

What a fun morning, the Standard 4 Ascension Anglican Primary class was appreciative warm and outgoing. They were ready to participate in discussion after the story and happy to answer questions about the story and to ask me questions on my writing. One child received a surprise gift copy of the book, having sat on a seat that was tagged. A copy was also given to the teacher so the whole class could have access to a copy.

Secondly my daughter's birthday, we did a late lunch at a restaurant of her choice, she is first of my two children and she is forty-eight this year.

And with that we were thrown into The Season of Advent again to wait in hope of God's love realized. Advent is my favourite season, after all it takes me to CHRISTMAS.

tinsel and baubles –
the sound of paper tearing
between giggles

AWESTRUCK
For the mind of God is change itself;
Evening came and morning came first day,
And so light changes everything.

Colour, brilliance, sparkle and truth,
Chiaroscuro, balance, management,
And the order of challenge in life.

The seed, the sprig, the sapling;
The tree the bees the bud the flowers,
A dynamism of necessary coexistence.

The rain on the roof and umbrella tops;
The sun, the oceans wide and deep
And clouds above to make of us awestruck.

QUADRILLE: SEASON OF ADVENT
A purple candle on the Advent wreath lit
In a spirit of hushed humility,

For i am anxious for Christmas
With its glamour and glitter
Its brightly sparkled Christmas trees,

Yet i must delay in the season of prophecy,
Waiting, again with hopeful expectation.

["lover boy and girl with red heart balloons" image from google dot com]

MAYBE A POEM SWEETHEART
Once i was young, and the moon,
Round and complete, lured my sigh
Many a night in a darkening swoon
There she was, round and ever so high.

Fantasy soared, jump, touch that moon
Bright-cold or pale-gold-hot
Growing takes eons and eons, none too soon
Her texture to know; maybe, maybe not.

There was no need of space ships then
Nursery rhymes could achieve so much
Her pages opened, and that was when
The words flew it passengers as such

Once too, our love was young
The two of us holding hands, looking
We basked in our favourite song
And there was the moon, full round watching.

Some such innocence tugs at the heart
Maybe a poem to write then, sweetheart.

Monday WRites 221

Everything breathes, lives; moving or rock still. Passing years reflected in moon curves, know of existence. Of destiny, that's another issue. Some of us are more gifted than others. Who knows which mountain, will crumble, which sea will be parted down its middle affording passage to a designated few?

What is there in knowing anyway. Each day dawns with some promise of its waning to dark inky skies. Maybe in our struggles to understanding and wisdom, the gratitude for life, that is enough.

CRACKLE QUADRILLE
Then the lightning crackled like the blaming finger of a witch gone wild on finding her wicked brew had been stolen, gulped, or siphoned off.
And trees whirling wildly to winds withering were indeed worthy of screams from television audiences both young and old.

FIREFLY: A VISION, MAKING MYTHS [7]
That day was a soft blue azure,
And night a trifling more somber.

She sighed as she pulled the covers,
Up way up to cover her features.

This new solitude, undesigned intrusion,
She must come to terms with this siuation.

Now into the room serene, and dimly lit,
A lone firefly chose to wander and to flit.

Spreading his flame to absorb the room,
He thought of absolving her from gloom.

She awakened from sleep, all knowing,
She sensed his presence, fully glowing.

She pulled off the covers to stare in awe,
She was never one for old-school folklore.

"I am your guardian angel" he offered,
"Never be lonely, and never be tired."

"But always have faith
For this span on earth."

"Till we meet again
Adieu my sweet and gentle friend"

From bright to slight her space had faded,
But a seed of wonder was securely planted.

Was it in October? was it September
Hummm, I really do not remember.
