Haibun Monday 4-26-21:
The Present Moment

❧✿❧

Another pandemic daybreak. Through the opened door, coolness of a sunrising morning in flushed pink tinged sky. Perfect temperature for back yard exercising. The heaviness of nights cover fading in a distant bird call to morning light. Stillness of the banana fronds obvious in the early halflight. One pigeon without its coo swoops in to perch on the electric wire, sitting there just watching.

April and the colour yellow sings her loudest
Poui beckon with their come hither blossoms
Easter breezes for surely smile the heartiest
Big hats; wide and mad, and gaudily displayed
Trumpets the name April, yellow sings her loudest
Baby chicks fluffy and cute so tenderly chirp
Into hearts of those admiring children fastest
And the sweet faces of bunnies, ears twitching
Tails bobbed to pompom style, the fanciest
Will nibble at your finger if you try to feed them
Tis the month of April, yellow sings her loudest.

Quadrille - Bother
I shudder at the thought
why bother to announce
such a disaster, the old woman lost her shoe?
and there's leftover meatloaf to  share ?
with the governor whose coming over to tea ?
paper cups should suffice ,
we'll gather in the meadow,  keeping distance safe.

Striking chords slice grey dawn

Night falls back, with morning exposed

Pandemic day awakened bows to a yawn

Prayer thoughts stain the swiping blade

Feathered heralds slice grey dawn

Time duly apportioned  to historical eras

Ponder the goal sky! grey to azure sworn

For whistles and songs  choir your task

This is the dance of daybreak drawn

By a master swordsman besting his game

Kiskadee and Mockingbird slice grey dawn

Meet me where the sidewalk ends

THOSE OUTRAGEOUS HATS
The road ends here, there is a hole in the mud a few paces away. Don't be too serious about the pavement ending. Don't overthink it. If you are a dreamer come in for the curious falling. You might trample over a few rabbits scurrying out their warren, after eggs, the Season of Easter being all of this and more.

The Red Queen? Oh no, she will not be showing her face here. She has had enough of that Alice girl, with all of her growing and shrinking; her eating and drinking.

Ah, but The Hatter, for sure he will made an appearance, to quell the ostentations of those big-hat ladies, wearing what they insist on calling Easter Bonnets, but you and I know, they are outrageously anything else but a bonnet.
He will be there to judge and prize the merriest or the maddest.
