WISHES STORED
The apples were larger
Their colours were brighter

The Poui was pinker
And oh there goes a flower yellower

The Lady smiled a serene smile
And all was un-stirred for miles and miles

The cats meowed and stretched
Paws manicured and clipped

No I'm not a cat lover
I sought to tell her

So how did you get here she sighed
I might have automobile-d in I lied

Be this Egypt
Land of hieroglyphics

For someone had written on the wall
Just behind the Season of Fall

Be there love be there peace
Be there dreams but let them be sweet

For Cinderella you see, is a star
She shines in nighttime near and far

Holding wishes ever made
And they never ever fade

Though the fog of dawn
May sometimes let her yawn

Monday WRites 67

APPLE TALES
Sing ye song to morning dew
Come watch as wind dances too
Mountains which clouds sit upon
Reverent do these stalwarts don
Their garb of ages yet to view
And men to auger history anew
For never was the blood of life
A thing scorned to give us strife
Let there be breath to twitter in
Pulses good and joyful spin
Where harmony her courses serve
Sumptuous feasts of garden curve
Yet he that could not speak a word
Received to wit such crafty sword
Rose to fathom a gift of deceit
Prompted by an envious conceit
His own unscrupulous ploy to add
Oh sorrow sorrow within, now had.

with this app and that
we list our various ring tones
wearing our collector's hat

our selfies take to feelings unwell

BATTY MAMSELLE
I come from dasheen planted in the backyard,
Callaloo bush cleaned on Saturday
To cook Callaloo on Sunday,
A few sugar cane stalks
Like thin jointed ladders, shooting up arrows
To catch the sunlight, to make life sweeter

I come from chennet tree and mango tree,
Which girls were forbidden to climb, back then;
Lest they make the fruit sour

And the clothes line,
Sometimes caught up in the tree branches,
If the tree was not trimmed
And the batty mamselle would
Come to rest on the clothes line,
With sunlight glinting transparent wings
Before they fly,
Where to? who knows?

A PECKING AT MY WINDOW PANE
A bird fluttered by my window pane
I swear confusion was his game
His beak poor he banged
Whilst no song he sang
And then in frustration was off again

This is a 1993 photo ( me in a hand-printed batik outfit) taken in the St Georges Grenada, market. Two places i always would go when i visited Grenada, were Grand Anse Beach and The Market in St Georges. The energy in the market is vivid and alluring and as a tourist, the prices were always special, not higher , lower for the island spices which i luv. I always bought my mother a swizzle stick, which they make from a tree folks call Swizzle Stick Tree(don't know if that is the scientific name for the tree)

MAKING NURSERY RHYMES [1] ABSENCE
She coughs into the silence
Does anyone hear
Neither mouse nor roach
To cuddle her near

Her kitchen she had cleaned
With soap and gleam
Her memories in mobiles
Dangle from a beam

TWO HEARTS BEAT
The moon dripped nectar, and stars sipped the night, and we danced.
We danced into our future, where the dance never stops.
I remember our song, tapping on our shoulders, saying.
Hey I'm yours. Cherish me, autograph me, preserve me.
For I know your hearts carry a space where I fit
Snugly.
That night, the moon dripped nectar, and stars sipped the night, and we danced.
We danced into our future, tripping the path of every thing lasting.
Sprinkling stardust.
Leaving a trail of follow the melody.
Come catch this moon as she rides the night on crotchets and quavers to where words weave
Magic.
I hear the music.
The words are now a whisper, clear as rising dawn
Soft as dew on petals dropped.
Tangy as orange peel in a zesty broth of love stew.
Wafting a steam so enticing, the moon dripped nectar,
and stars sipped the night, and we danced.
We danced into our future

THE OUTDOOR PICNIC
They tell me of the outdoor picnic
On the green grass in summer sun
Sounds wonderful i have to admit
Friends, neighbours and families group
Freedom celebrates the outdoor picnic
Wearing her colours of red white and blue
Yes folks; i can surely picture it
Night sky comes alive in a different way
Bursts of amazement fireworks predict
Their hearts to honour the fallen braves
In showers of peace at the outdoor picnic

BRAVE MEN'S BONES
Insatiable Mistress War
She basks in the interlude of strife
She paints her rouge of dead men's blood
And fancies her nails from his bones

Stalking the shadows of discord
Wrenching in anorexic pangs of hate
Seducing with her hips of disagreement
Watch how we bow now to brave men’s souls

And peace genuflects
