IT WASN'T JUST MIDNIGHT
It was the middle of the night,
And there a thing so scary;

A shadow carved in the dark
Unmoving, it craved screams;

Ah but she stood her ground,
Ha! she exclaimed, look at you

Shaped like a minotaur, nonsense!
Phased to this not that not this;

Couldn't even make up your mind.
Neve! you are absolutely useless.

Structured colourful pieces fit so nicely, locking one end into another. No wonder kids love it. Leggo blocks I believe, are designed to fit the fantasy of every idealist I am sure.

If it cannot fit, it's not meant to be. No surprises, no challenges, no adventure, no revolution. Just the plain and simple square knot into the correct square hole.

And in this compelling game of bonding, grandparents and grandchildren loose themselves, regardless of weather or time of day. I reflect on pre covid days. I miss my granddaughter. A video call is just not the same thing as a visit.

[Dante Gabriel Rossetti, 'The Day Dream' from google dot com]

A CALL TO MORNING
Those kiskadees are sounding their call,
Morning's here but the moon will not fall;
Instead she will got to her place of sleep,
Without so much as as the tiniest peep;
Return though she must later to shine,
At her ever dear cozy nightfall shine.

Weekly Scribblings #20: Undoubtedly Rossetti
Prompted by Sanaa: Your Challenge today is to write while inspired by the works of Rossetti.

My inspiration came from
Rushes in a Watery Place by Christina Rossetti

Rushes in a watery place,
And reeds in a hollow;
A soaring skylark in the sky,
A darting swallow;
And where pale blossom used to hang
Ripe fruit to follow.

SO MANY MANGOES
Evening sun stares, fixed awhile in orange rays, as day takes a few minutes gathering herself in contemplation.

There is the old mango tree like a still life in the near distance, heavily laden with fruit

Sigh. This is definitely a new normal scene

EIGHT DAY OF THE WEEK

I searched the four corners of the earth,
For a pearl in a dewdrop i could not find,
But a needle in a haystack pointed to the dearth,
Of children's laughter left behind,
As i passed every play park empty and sullen,
I asked "Dear Needle what is happening?

With a wink of her eye,
And a long drawn out sigh,
Said she: "this day of the week is called Today" and its just the two of us,
Everyone else is hiding from The Novel Corona Virus.

PELAU IN D' BASKET

In her backyard garden one pigeon pea shrub scrubbed the wall as the wind blew

A lazy housewife, no not she, she served her husband more so, as her children grew

Aurora and her girl pals, planned to go watch the masquerade bands
Sitting under the covered stands

In her basket a pot of tasty pelau
With the pigen peas she picked from her garden she cooked

She knew nothing of Reine des Glaces
Her salad was of locally grown leaves of lettuce

This was Port of Spain Trinidad after all,
She had bought her greens from a farmer's stall

Prosery: Maya Angelou
Challenged to use the seven words
[his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream]
From Maya Angelou's poem Caged Bird in a prose writing of not more than 144words

❧✿❧

The beautiful flower moon arrived early. Birds were still nesting in their hushed roosts. She was round and full, super bright at the cusp of day and night. She had traversed gazillion of stars in her eating frenzy. She was sated now.

Will there be rain to add to the tears of an earth pining under the burden of pandemic charges?

Who knew as she waned, as morning stretched awake, that her slumber behind azure curtains light and gossamer like spider weaves, would lead to a night of quarantined madness, as ominous clouds dared to hide her brillance.

And below, in a sleepy little cottage in the woods, the hermit, as he wakes in a cold sweat, his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
