Labour day is rife with history of oil field workers marches and strikes and attests to the evolvement of labour union in this twin island country.
Names like Tubal Uriah "buzz " Butler and Adrian Cola Rienzi come to foremind.
Better working conditions and a voice for labourers are what all the strife and strikes were for.

Powerful haibun and I love your concluding haiku. Labor Day was always a special holiday for a lifelong supporter of unions during my years of working as a union member.
