HAPPY CARNIVAL MONDAY T&T

HIGH FIVE
Pale blue skies, clearing into morning. Green trees and masqueraders wearing the colour: jouvert-morning-fun. Its Monday of Carnival 2017. I talk to a jouvert masquerader, happily, covered in mud and paint. Why am i not in the band? Why am i standing at the corner? Been there done that. She gives me a high five and continues dancing away to catch up with the rest of the band.

    This time of year, your poetry always makes me miss home (in the best of way). I can hear the music, smell the food, and we might not have mud in our festivities, but I can certainly smell the scent of the ocean... and miss it.

      Aftee years of being a masquerade. It's hard the first few years just watching. But then you get used to it and you just enjoy others having fun and your are happy for them
