Striking chords slice grey dawn

Night falls back, with morning exposed

Pandemic day awakened bows to a yawn

Prayer thoughts stain the swiping blade

Feathered heralds slice grey dawn

Time duly apportioned  to historical eras

Ponder the goal sky! grey to azure sworn

For whistles and songs  choir your task

This is the dance of daybreak drawn

By a master swordsman besting his game

Kiskadee and Mockingbird slice grey dawn

  6. Absolutely beautiful, Gillena. I enjoy your short forms, but it's so nice to see you branch out into something longer – particularly as this fold so cleverly begins with a haiku. I love this art work too.

  7. It is really good to share this world with birds, they are colourful, beautiful and adventurous...and can sing a lot better than me!

  8. We have been immersed with bird calls for about the last two weeks. This will remain the entire summer. We don't have the a kiskadees is but we have plenty of the mocking birds. They call from roof top to roof top here in the suburbs. I talk with them but don't know what I am saying, except in English the call is "who cooks for you?" in a semi-bird tone ands they will answer.

    1. Thanks for your appreciation Jim. In Tobago the Mocking Bird is called Day Clean. They say its the first to sing at dawn there.

  9. I've never lived with kiskadees but mockingbirds are fun. They watch their audience and say/sing things to produce results. Once after the big cicada swarm was over I watched one perch on a railing and make a noise like a cicada, just to tease a half-dozen other birds.

  12. The Haiga is gorgeous. The text art with the picture of the bird with its golden markings is very striking.

  15. I watched the youtube of the dVerse Live OLN and enjoyed hearing you read your poem. What would this world be without birdsong. I like the haiku at the top of the page.

With all the troubles and inconveniences affecting everyone it is a relief to hear the birdsongs that used to be frequent before. Great word craft Gillena!

  22. Beautifully writ and such a joy to hear you read. I LOVED hearing the kiskadees at dawn in Bermuda. We spent January and February in Bermuca for 5 years. I always thought it so amazing that the kiskadee's song was its name!
