ME
Laughter in gulps, tea in sips,
nature a coverlet, the finest counterpane,
introspection - guardian of silence,
armour of joy, window of smiles,
the adulting mind, the charming apron;
all these, cover a soul, who really is a child,
tender, frightened, tear-stained: me.

Monday WRites 160

[World cup balls 2006 -2018 images from google dot com used to form this mosaic; Fair use]

NEW WAVE
Watching the World Cup matches had been for me a TV screen view in the comfort of my home. This year i'm still viewing in the comfort of my home, BUT, at my computer screen.

Having thrown out my old TV which i had for more than ten years [because it suddenly went blank, never to wake up again]. New age, new wave, new experience. Enjoying the games non-the-less

a goal almost scored -
a hesitant rain shower
sounds on my roof

Caladium in my garden after a few days of rain tease

AH CALADIUMS
Ah Caladiums, a tiny nudge of raindrops,
they cycle in like toddlers.
Happy faces ready for adventure,
ready to show-off new found skills.
Wheee!!! look at me, speckled
to the likes of my fancy.
Happy the rains have finally
decided to cycle in.

Monday WRites 159

[I cropped 3 images from the internet to form today's mosaic]

HEARTBREAKER
Night, shamed into mists of dawn,
Rests a coy head against pillows of drifting cloud.
Silver light lends an allure to winged messengers,
Proclaiming today.
This newness, as stale as yesterday's birdsongs,
Enlivens coolness of daybreak;
Like a heartbreaker, it will not stay,
For torrid are these days though the Season
Of The Rains are upon us.

RIVER RAMBLINGS
smooth stones,
sharp stones,
stones;
down by the river,
aflow,
flow,
thoughts in contemplation;
words,
words in hibernation;
shadows emerge,
to a sprng of,
fresh green,
poetry life;
where verse directs,
the heart song of a lurid,
trickle over a bed,
of river silt;
how deep in into the earth’s layers?
seeps the silt of,
immersed concentration;
listening to hear,
the sounds,
silent in the heart,
of a universe;
always,
saying something,
of,
universal measure.

WISPS TRANSIENT
Lust:
That salty
essence enticing, just
When the vagaries of
Reasoning, asks to be harnessed
Into meaningful harmonies, only to
Be wasted in wisps transient.

FREEDOM: THE BEST KIND
Clouds drift, hugh and white in their puffiness. Sometimes i wonder of their weight and texture. Even though i think of cotton candy at a village fair, but not for its sweetness.

I did promise myself, i would write a haiku a day on my retirement. I would sit in my gallery gazing at the clouds sometimes pink, sometimes yellow, sometimes blue. As morning shapes herself, urged on by bird songs.

I did write a haiku a day, in that phenomenal space, but just for a while. Then i lapsed in sometimes and then a few days went by without the haiku muse's whispers. But its all good. I now write in the freedom of the moment. Those were the good old internet slow, days, when my imac was bondi coloured and oh so cute. Later my Dell with its CD pull out drawer came into my life.

Still with my Acer, I write and share, anytime of day or night. Retirement is not having to put the alarm bell on, not having to go to sleep to wake up to go to work. Its the best kind of freedom, believe me.

Monday WRites 158

'WE BEAT' CLOSURE
Wind, is not who has stolen the vibe,
Nor Mocking Birds frolicking through pruned Ixoras.
It is just a time of capsized-jouvert ending.
Another end May-into-June festival time timed-out
To closure, but this year on a new note.
The folk has had earful of calypso and pan;
Belly full of corn soup, roti,
Ribald and rhetoric, staged under light of moon.
A count of days, till next year, that is all.
Now the festival of 'we beat' is over.
'WE BEAT' CLOSURE © gillena cox 2018

#jouvert is traditionally a beginning event. It happens at dawn on the Monday of Carnival is the opener for the street parades. This year in St James a jouvert event has been included for the first time in the end phase of The we beat festival.

#We Beat Festival: What began as a 9 nights cultural festival of end May into first week of June; celebrating the rich diversity of the people of St. James, Port of Spain. is now A week long mid-year event

FLIGHT INTO AZURE
A babe at the feet of Majesty,
Looks up to the sky seeing,
Only layers of chameleon clouds.
Now a giraffe, now a poodle,
An angel, a dragon, waves.
Sharp ears pick up the sound,
Of a jetplane going somewhere,
Overhead in a strait line, between
air and azure.
Who am i, just a flight into azure,
So easily awed.

A MOUSE IS A MOUSE
There once was a mouse who scurried
Back and forth in and out he hurried
Till his tail in a spin
Caught in a sinister trap there sullied
Nevermore to be worn in style he worried
