[The Circus 1937 by Joan Miro from google dot com; fair use]

THE CIRCUS
The circus came to town
I went to see animals
I went to see performers
I went to be amazed

The circus came to town
The big clumsy elephant
Ate peanuts from folks’ hands
In between elephant mouthed smiles

The circus came to town
Tigers snarled fierce teeth
But did what they were told
Folks gasped breaths of unbelief

The circus came to town
There was cotton candy
And innocence and laughter
And baggy pants clowns too

The circus came to town
Trapeze artistes flipped and swirled
There were seats in tiers
There was no burden of cruelty
