[Gerard Sekoto, Boy and the Candle (1943); courtesy dVerse Poets Pub]

 What if he blew and blew,

But the candle flame, true

To disobediance  sort review;

And claiming freedom grew,

Brighter and brighter due,

To some magical new

Assignment, based on few

Rules to guide, and will to chew

On observances due

To maturity anew

  1. The rhyming works so well here! The boy and his freedom - loved it.

  3. I like your mono rhyme, Gillena. And the idea of a candle’s flame being disobedient, perhaps choosing its own assignments.
