Through the deep caves of thought I hear a voice that sings:—–by Oliver Wentdell Holmes Sr., from The Chambered NautilusLAZY DAYS AND MONDAYS
A song sings to the heart, from a deep place of lazy being. It gathers strength in its silence, reaching on unseen wings to a clever site of understanding.
Through the deep caves of thought I hear a voice that sings, a song so clear and smart, that a mundane Monday understands the hearts yearning for more than its lazy care.
I get up in the rhythm of serious understanding and reverent obedience. I go to the washing machine. It is time to do the laundry. Two tubs are whirled and swooshed, and hung out to air dry. Well done to me, lazy retirement days are sooo very embracing.

Gillena, I like how you describe the movement and stillness of music. I can see you there with the tunes playing and doing your laundry. Am I right in thinking you recently retired? Good for you in so many ways :)
ReplyDeleteOh no, i am retired a long time now, since 2003.

I loved your use of the prompt. A song that beckons you to do something and not laze around might be a good one. Although too much of it can be a little tiresome! Great piece.

Your story is quite musical in its movements and so evocative of emotions that stir from daily moments, I so love the opening sentence and the strength music brings. I also love how you positively celebrate being retired.
