SOUNDLESS SILENCE
Colour of silence is dawn, just before roosters
sound their crowing. Smell of silence is night rain,
when earth rises to meet tears of cobalt clouds,
flattened into shadows of sky. Span of silence is
unfathomed eternity stretching on and on and on
soundlessly.

  1. I really love how you brought in all the other senses into the silence... yes it has both color and scent... maybe, sometimes words would be just too much.

  3. You had me at /when earth rises to meet tears of cobalt clouds/--terrific wordsmithing. It is nice to consider the other senses relative to silence. I wonder what taste would be?

  7. I love the way you took this and brought us the colour, the smell, and the span of silence. I could visualize the steaming earth after the rain meeting the colbolt sky. Very nice!

  11. What a gorgeous way to start this poem, Gillena, with the colour of silence and the time before roosters crow. A very sensual poem.I especially love the lines:
'...Smell of silence is night rain,
when earth rises to meet tears of cobalt clouds,
    flattened into shadows of sky'.
