Writing

DRY SPELLS
sometimes
there is sunshine, bright as ever;
there are bird songs, chirpy as ever;
there are honks of horns,
and cobs of corn,
mouse clicks, and words, words, words
yet i claim nought;
i'm in the desert, a being,
as arid as fallow sand;
with narry a word,
so i write nought.
sitting, lying, standing;
there, in an abyss of mind,
think....ing.

  2. Yes, the feeling of being in the ariid desert sometimes, I definitely understand! The bird songs are all around, but hard to find the words to write while 'think...ing.' This poem is one of my favorites of yours, Gillena.

  3. those are the moments when you need to write anyway....even if it is not good....so you can prime the pump....and who knows maybe some day you will use just a phrase that you wrote during that time....I have been there...

  8. This sounds so true to life, Gillena. Sometimes all seems to be there for great words and yet we feel dry and produce very little.

  9. I can't say that I've every come up short and dry on writing something, but I can relate with you on the idea that it can be hard to come up with something to write. I just take it with a grain of sand most of the time because there is always something to write about if someone is willing to search long and hard enough.

  10. Sometimes just thinking is an excellent source of inspiration. I too have desert periods.
