 Quadrille Summersault

The circus is coming

She will be going

What better event to enjoy

Now school vacation is here

Tickets already bought

Expectations riding high

Therre'll be lions and tigers

And rings of fire

The clowns will certainly

Do their summersaults

The circus is coming

Focus - a Fold poem
Since today her focus is spot on,
Camera clicks, a memory frozen,
When her child was born
Back then she didn't own a camera ;
Not so now, her focus is spot on,
Time must bow at her feet
So swiftly yesterday is gone
With sunshine brightly at day then
Moon in her shapely goings on
Allows the stolen light to shine
Freezing time, her focus is spot on,

[Perseids from google ]

" Really captain, must we do this now?"

"Aye Mr Marvelous, warp speed!, The Perseid meteor shower is on the rise and her glistening shafts will pierce the galactic bed in a matter of mere nanoseconds."

"It is what it is captain; everyday unfurls as it must; here we go then, to warp speed. Then we can all have a cup of tea"

Don't want to have us falling out of the sky like birds chased by Zeus."

 Here Come The Dawn

Is night the passing of respite,

A little space to dream

with eyes closed and minds

Open to existing realms unseen?

Or is there wonder too

In the every day of dawning,

Close to the bosoms of awe,

A miracle of restart bringing?

Yes! the dawn is worth the hope,

The chance to continue or,

To delete and start again,

The inspiration of plan-to-make,

Of futures to carve out,

Dreams to sketch a blueprint,

Of ways forward to future,

Dare to give to today a hint.

That startup time, that nuance

Of newness,  is the dawn we await

With its silent preface;

Then patterns of birdsongs,  to

Fillow on the heels to blue sky,

Where clouds  quietly drifting,

All embracing coverage,

And morning moon fading.

The twinkling of night,

The shadows and silhouettes,

The neon flashes,

All must kowtow to the transience

Of dawn;

The middling phase of; its here,

See? a new day.

It has come from no where.

One Light

There is just one light

in  morning's sky, silent

With clouds the colour of charcoal,

And a breeze cooling as melon;

Find me a space here,

tucked into the silence,

I will stay a little longer;

Waiting for at least,

One bird to sing.

Sunday Callaloo
Tied up on the market stall
for buyers to take home,
A favourite is the blue crabs.
To cook in the famous Sunday callaloo.
Nearby are ochroes and dasheen bush,
  the green peppers,
and bundles of chive seasoning.
One stop for this Sunday favourite.

Haibun - My Train Days
The Trinidad Government Railway existed between 1876 and 28 December 1968. Originally built to connect Port of Spain with Arima, the railway was extended to Couva in 1880, San Fernando in 1882, Cunapo (now Sangre Grande) in 1897, Tabaquite in 1898, Siparia in 1913 and Rio Claro in 1914.

During my high school years, there was a phase in my transportation where i travelled from Chaguanas to San Juan by train. Those were for the most, for school children passengers, days of flirting and naughtiness.
The boys did what we called 'hopping the train' that is they waited until the train started moving, then they would jump aboard. (very dangerous i remember one boy of Chaguanas whom i knew got both his legs crushed) There was also those boys who would not spend money on a train ticket and dodged the
inspectors from carriage to carriage. Then there was the 'throwing of powder' boys would buy small tins
of white talc - (thank god they were fragrant scented talc) and sometimes
baby powder; and they would go through the carriages sprinkling on any unsuspecting girls. Some girls giggled and flirted others who didn't would 'cut eyes' at such behaviour. Strange to say though i do not remember getting powdered.
Those were just some of the behaviours on board. But that was not all; there was the scenery
which at that age i really did not ogle. But there it was, nevertheless, cane fields, rice fields, country houses. bison grazing etc etc. The poet in me i think, was sleepy in those days.

hoot hoot all aboard
chug a chug clackety clack -
