Confetti Sky  - A Fold

Caught; a handful of magic in mittened hand,

Softly and gently some touched my cheek,

They came to me without wave of wand,

Snowflakes seen for very first time,

Out of pale blue sky, magic in mittened hand;

Called to witness this divine confetti,

I almost swoon as they land,

Light as a feather tired of sailing,

I agree, snowflakes are little poems grand,

Written on the wind for all to see,

Happy tourist i, magic in mittened hand.

    Oh dear, Gillena, I don’t seem to have been clear in my prompt instructions. I gave three poems to choose from and respond to: one by Siegfried Sassoon, one by Dylan Thomas and one by Maya Angelou. I love this poem but it doesn’t fit the prompt. Would you mind please reading the three poems provided and choose one of them? Many thanks, Kim x

    I’m so glad you went back and chose the Maya Angelou poem, Gillena – I love your gentle response, the bird stirring the sleeper to rise, and the eruption of ‘Whistles thrills and rhythm’, which reminds us that Angelou wasn’t just a writer, she was also a dancer and an activist. I also love the contrast of wild bird and pet bird, and life interrupting the ‘Whistles thrills and rhythm’.

    Great take on the caged bird and I really love your take on snowflakes. The Longfellow is so sad ( and so modern in its tone) and yet you have written the joy of first seeing snow. I remember meeting an old man in Menorca who said "I am a very important man in this village because I have been to Paris - AND - I have seen snow!" Your poem reminded me of him...
