Prosery: Breathing and Moons

“An early moon is just a piece of change in the softening sky. “

is the prompt line given from

James Masao Mitsui, “Spring Poem for the Sake of Breathing, Written After a Walk to Foster Island”

AN EARLY MOON

Sometimes it is clear, exercising in the mornings, is sheer punishment. So she relents; tucking herself under her blanket for at least a half an hour more. Aging she muses is no sin.

The birds know their songs, the dew when to fall and the worms their wiggle. All of the above will happen even though she is not yet awake.

Oh but the moon, she will miss this lingering beauty in the silent drama of colours and palettes from above, weaving their silvery pinks and greys to azure. She had always thought " An early moon is just a piece of change in the softening sky"

  12. Do you have the saying that we use, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks?" Seems that older folk want to keep on believing what they thought during earlier life. Besides her belief on the Moon's attributes, I like your having the lady go back to bed in the mornings when she's tired.

  13. In winter I definetly snuggle under the bed covers longer. I could just lay there and read a book. Enjoy your week.

  14. I enjoyed your early moon, Gillena, and putting the tricky prompt line at the end was a great idea – it worked well. I agree that ageing is no sin, we all have to go through it. I love this, it made me smile: ‘The birds know their songs, the dew when to fall and the worms their wiggle’.

  21. Oh how true your words ring in my ears! "An Early Moon" is truly precious, a fleeting moment worth capturing within our hearts. I believe that we should celebrate every single day that we get to witness the beauty of mother nature through the moon cycles. Thank you for the gentle reminder to savor life's simple moments. 👍👏👌😊🙏
