Monday Writes 254

[Today'mosaic: Flowers And A Scribble]

QUADRILLE BLUE
Were it not for ink blots on
Blue pleated skirts, one
Could have pondered heaven
In colours ruddy or golden, even
If the drill masters chalked
Formulas of h20 and balked
Footsteps etched forever on the moon;
Mystery clung to distance all to soon.

  7. Fascinating poem that feels very deep, Gillena. Not sure why my email address is showing up in the "comment as" spot and it isn't even an email address I use much anymore.

  9. What a coincidence, Gillena, years ago, I had a skirt with a blue ink blot pattern on it! I love the lines:
    ‘Footsteps etched forever on the moon;
    Mystery clung to distance all too soon.’

  15. Though it was “indigo blue", “blue pleated skirt” evoked my high school days. It was part of school uniform. Thank you for your visit and kind words.

  17. Gillena, you instantly brought me back to 12, ink-stained hands, and the blue and gold plaid vest and pleated skirt Mama sewed for me. It was one of my favorite outfits. Your last two lines got me thinking how it would've been nice back then at 12 to be encouraged to reach for the moon. But, as I write that, I realize my parents did. Thank you, Friend. :-)
