OF POEMS
of poems are the invisible side of being,
thoughts, feelings, emotions
those colours hidden under the skin
those words whispered at dawn
when silence blankets earth and sky
of poems are the invisible side of being,
how seethed in anger blood boils
heart flutters in young love
and passions sway with the fickleness
of being human
of poems are the invisible side of being,
hot and cold
and lukewarm givings
sinewy and bones, frames of living
truth, dare, adventure and understanding
of poems are the invisible side of being,
where sky meet sea at ocean's gathering
where no one can hide
unless we wraps our word-selves up in a bundle
to be where no one else in the world knows

Brilliant! poems--like performance--make the invisible visible. Love your use of Tagore and of the image. Don't ever wrap your word-self up!

"our word-selves"...Our true nature, never to be wrapped up. This is such a wonderful magic-pour of words defining poetry. Absolutely brilliant Gillena.

I agree that poems are:
ReplyDelete'those colours hidden under the skin
those words whispered at dawn
when silence blankets earth and sky'
and
'...the invisible side of being,
where sky meets sea at ocean's gathering'.
Beautiful, Gillena!
Happy you dropped by Kim

I like the invisible side of being.. that's why I think poetry is about describing what we cannot see.

Enchanting!! I read it through and loved each line and every emotion, then I read it again and inserted the title at the beginning of each stanza and it became more! Lovely

ReplyDeletethose words whispered at dawn
indeed ....
and I really like these two lines, so well placed in the opening stanza, which walks us through the "everything and nothing" of what poems are, can be, might be .... and I'm still sitting with the idea, the image of words whispered at dawn, the "mysteriousness" of this, as yet undefined, holds possibilities, and in my head, I'm thinking "prayer" (even if it's the prayer of a lover skin/touch/kiss, or a prayer to the awakening day, or a the communion in silence) ...
lovely little poem about poeming Gillena :) Happy Mid-weeking to you.
Thanks for your appreciation Pat

Who wouldn't be a poet with so many words to play with. Mind you that poor guy looking into the word shop appears to be shocked there are so many! When talking to people I find they are often amazed that I write poetry.

Very true Gillena! Most times poems are shrouded in mysteries known only to the poets

I am really loving this. Is one of my favorites for the unseen things prompt. It is a nice Ars Poetica as well, poets strive to put the unseen on to the paper, but soemitmes so personally that the full scope of the meaning might be double invisible to the reader. But that same aspect allows the reader to bring an equally cryptic personal interpretation to the poem that may be quite different from what the poet intended. It is an art that truly involves engagement by both poet and reader and even after revelation, like emotion and being themselves, has so many facets that persist in their invisibility. the lovely repetition and rhythm flows like a sonnet, and is soft and inviting to yor invisible realm. this was a really great offereing for this prompt. THANKS!

This idea is amazing, poems being carriers of our feelings and thoughts it's so true! A way to make the unseen, seen.
