NUTMEG ICE CREAM
I'm being self-centred now
The guy across the table from mine
Keeps salting his beer

The taste of nutmeg ice-cream
Mutes my palette so I hear
Only the rhythms of my heart

Light sparkles across the water
Of the bay down below
In competition with the banana boats

My thoughts meander
Across the water riding each ripple
Just for this evening

In a New Banana Town - population: you
I refuse to return a smile
To anyone especially a stranger

  1. There are elements at certain tables who will try to flirt around the best they can. Very familiar episode Gillena!

  3. This poem is rich with taste and life. The nutmeg, the salting beer, the light on the water. You have added another layer to the photo. Thanks so much for posting!

  4. This is a fun read, Gillena. My favorite line is "In a New Banana Town - population: you" and I don't blame your poet for not smiling to anyone but strangers. (I smile a lot and do like my smiles returned. I've never had a dirty look.)

  6. I think I would love the nutmeg ice-cream better than salt in my beer... I think though that I would enjoy a place like that.

  7. What a beautiful poem. Nutmeg icecream sounds delicious! The bunny I am painting is grey, I hadn't started his fur yet when it was white and still have a ways to go on him before I get to the hat...
