Monday WRites 72

[internet image]

AN ELEPHANT INVITED TO TEA
Steaming hot let lava be poured
Like some molten treasure offered
From Gods in fashioning a ceremony
To humans appealing returned satiety

An elephant at tea; tusks of ivory, see?

Or we turn the tables on free will
Let gravity pardon the outflow still
This soothing poured from generous spout
Sipping mercy at the grail of avid doubt

An elephant, heavy-hoofed; squeals at a mouse.

Hush then the cry of children's blood
Wanting a little more of earth to bud
Before sustenance of heaven to taste
Four-score-and-ten at least retrace

  4. I like the playfulness of your title but there is something quite studied in the ceremony of tea, I believe, and that comes through too.

  5. This is whimsical, but introspective too, like gazing into the tea leaves.

  10. I too liked the idea of the elephant coming to tea. And the little mouse squeal. But, did the elephant step on the kid? I read and reread but couldn't quite figure out the last verse.

    1. No the elephant didn't step on the kid. Those at tea are lamenting the turn of events in the world the disregard for life love and children. They surely the Divine must be so unhappy as to turn the tables a bit and plead the sanity of humanity

  16. An elephant invited to tea...It makes me think of "the elephant in the room." With grace and companionship tensions can be diffused with honesty.
