Prosery: Breathing and Moons

“An early moon is just a piece of change in the softening sky. “

is the prompt line given from

James Masao Mitsui, “Spring Poem for the Sake of Breathing, Written After a Walk to Foster Island”

AN EARLY MOON

Sometimes it is clear, exercising in the mornings, is sheer punishment. So she relents; tucking herself under her blanket for at least a half an hour more. Aging she muses is no sin.

The birds know their songs, the dew when to fall and the worms their wiggle. All of the above will happen even though she is not yet awake.

Oh but the moon, she will miss this lingering beauty in the silent drama of colours and palettes from above, weaving their silvery pinks and greys to azure. She had always thought " An early moon is just a piece of change in the softening sky"

SPENDING TIME WORTHWHILE

Make time for Him your one true friend

He'll see you today and through to the end

Every care every concern big or small

He'll listen and solve problems all

You'll go to Him in thanksgiving

He'll send you back  rejoicing

Nothing to Him is meaningless

Every burden he can heal and bless

Oh what a friend to rely on

What a friend to lean upon

That Calvary man that son of God

He'll bear your burdens one and all

THIS SIDE OF TUESDAY

See how she kiskadees

In conversation with him.

Why can't she just say I,

Like everyone else.

There she goes again,

See how she kiskadees:

Mother will make it dear,

Leave the ingredients here.

So she bakes them cookies,

Her little cricket team will be happy;

See how she kiskadees,

Mumbling praises to herself.

"Ms Baker," she whispers,

These chocolate chips,

Are surely the best, this side of Tuesday.

See how she kiskadees?

#Note: The kiskadee is a bird which sings out its name: kis ka dee, kis ka dee.

I am using kiskadeeing as a verb  to mean using one's name instead of saying  I. How this works.

Quadrille: pass the pepper please

HOT LIKE HELL

Someone picked peppers by peck.

So i read a long time ago.

That's quite a mouth full of peppers to speak.

I wonder,

Were there any scorpion peppers in that peck.

Here in Trinidad and Tobago, it is those brave, who would taste it.

The Trinidad Moruga scorpion (Capsicum chinense) is a chili pepper native to the village of Moruga, Trinidad and Tobago. In 2012, New Mexico State University's Chile Pepper Institute identified the Trinidad Moruga scorpion as the hottest chili at that time, with heat of 1.2 million Scoville heat units (SHUs).

HIDING IN THE HEAT

Best stay indoors with whirring fan;

Siestas at anytime take.

These sweat-soaked days dazzle the mind,

But butterflies still loop along.

Brillance of sunrays on glass

Best stay indoors with whirring fan.

Buses, houses, cars, shop windows;

Everywhere a sparkle of light;

Watermelons at the sellers;

Can lure us out into the street.

Best stay indoors, with whirring fan,

After you've made a purchase.

There are words a-whirling around

In the mind, with caution gather

A few at a time, to poem

 with. Best stay indoors, whirring fan.

Paintings by artist Thorvald Hellesen (1888 – 1937)

 Then One Day - a quadrille

Pressed petals distort the glamour

of courting years,

When words were fresh and unfurled with such ease,

The ghosting of love poems,

Matched his vanishing.

She wasted years, wasting away;

Until one sunny day,

Shielding her eyes from the sun,

She ventured out resolute.

Memories Echo Their Truths.

It seems so very long ago; guess because it really is. Faces of two small children and a husband and i, filled this space called a home.

Spilled toys out of place to adults, but just where they should be to kids. Paint brushes, pencils drawing papers on the dinner table. That's not where an adult should leave them. Well anyway it's not what adult husband and father in the house thought.

Seems things were always out of place, but really, they were all in place, in time, in a harmony juxtaposed with the way it was and should be.

Now a lot of space fills that space; and memories echo their truths. Time was back then; when family was scribbled in the mind of a father, a mother, a daughter and a son.

raindrops echo

the music of today -

what of tomorrow
