Monday WRites 192

MAYBE A SONNET
I wanted to write you a love song,
Throbbing with fullness of passion.
But words kept dancing all of it own,
To silent strum of a syllabic moan.
Commas, full stops, semicolons, dashes.
That was when i knew i should,
Instead write you a sonnet if i could.
And still the letters curved to all shapes;
Like bananas, apples, cantaloupes, grapes.
The L was elusive, the O, just the same;
Maybe, i should has sketched your name,
To the horizon where earth and sky meet,
Where lovers are given mystical retreat,
Where E and V dance in a word forever.

[Columbus's ships from Bing dot com. Fair use]

DEAR COLUMBUS C.
I pulled honey from bees to quench your mien.
Yet the wind wails at your cruelty.
Why the mastiff dogs to gorge flesh
Of People of Good, in your lust for gold?
Had you asked i would have just given you
Rivulets and streams of molten splendor.

In the darkness i lit your face by North star.

The sovereigns pulled trust out of vaults
To feed your lies and miscalculations.
You sailed, Master of Oceans, on ego's tide.
Riding wave after wave of human slaughter.
The souls of Tianos, i hold here in Heaven.
No more their blood or tears to complain.

Process Note.

My poem today is inspired by a book I am reading 'COLUMBUS: NOT A CARIB: by SHARLOW' I read about the use of mastiff dogs to punish captives who disobeyed the orders of Columbus, who thought he had sailed to Asia in search of Cipangu were he had read much gold lined the streets and palaces of Kublai Khan. In his book the author refers to the peaceful tianos as 'The people of Good'

Monday WRites 191

[in today's mosaic: ant hill, pink heliconia, along the path, monkey vine,]

ITS FULLNESS AND RICHNESS
The fullness and richness of the earth,
Ours to manage and to do so well.
Amazed are we from the day of birth.
Radiance of light lures us to lullabys.
Thus fullness and richness of the earth,
A legacy left from fore fathers before us,
Should excell in wonder as well in worth.
We are not creators but merely imitators.
Well are we to continue from such good firth.
The expansion of creation's story, sustains
The fullness and richness of the earth

[Poui Trees by Karin Best, from a google search. Fair use]

TIME WAS
Time was, when folks saw the pinks of the Poui
around The Savannah and the yellows too,
children made kites from copy book pages.
The wind was right for kite flying.

Time was, you stayed home,
cause it was a holiday and,
children left their copy books in book bags,
going outside instead
to help put three/four grains of corn or pigeon peas
into holes in the backyard garden,
cause it rained, cause it was Corpus Christi
and folks knew that Rainy Season start.

Time was when it rained
It was Rainy Season,
children made paper boats from copy book pages.

Nowadays it rains and folks say, [thought] it was just a passing cloud, but is serious rain.
Nowadays at other times folks say [thought] it was Rainy Season, where de rain.

Monday WRites 190

BIG BIG MOON
This January, Moon grew big big, and round
As great sky held her tenderly, securely.
So surely she would not fall to the ground,
Like a yellow fruit, heavy and laden with flavour.
Yes, every so silently she grew, big big, and round
Birds sang to her, their sweetest thrills.
She sleeping by day, was no where to be found
Oceans knowing, swirled like frenzied worshippers,
While manic humans swayed to Siren sound
Ofttimes a moon crop is ever so special
Watchers whisper, she grew big big, and round

YET
Love is blind, yet i can see
Mountains, where clouds sit,
On a sunny clear day. Yet they
Disappear in misty apparitions,
Yet they remain, unseen and i
Unseeing know, and wonder not,
For they are there.

Yet, warmth sees me, then i can be snow

Warmth of sun, I cling to honing
Divine presence. Yet somewhere,
Snow lays her magic like a blanket
Cold and white. Yet someone dons
Mittens in pairs to catch
Snowflakes falling. Yet to reap
The Rewards of divinity.
