 A Mermaids Gain

My mother a mermaid bless her fins,

Gave birth to me on a moonlit night at a traveller's inn,

There were scurrying feet,

And water boiled and drinks served neat,

She thrashed about for all the pain,

But smiled in the end for i was her gain.

just because its fun, he stacks rocks as a hobby
some people call him, rockman from lonely corner
how cruel i think; is this twenty twenty three
or have we reversed;  to a time of backwardness

THROUGH TIME AND SPACE
hungry rocks eat the gemstones; and time vapors thin
old days are lived on one side;   what's past now present
through rocks guarding the gateway; who then will return
can love transport through portals; rocks thin as magic

 Sips Not Gulps

The birds and the dogs;

Songs and barkings,

Do they know the measure of

Sun rays blazing like unsheathed swords?

Now depression sings her loudest tune.

On some hot days.

When lethargy seeps into bones;

Like a drizzle gobbled up on the scorching pavement.

The atmosphere weighs heavy on

Thinking, capacity and capability.

Squashing reason, goals, and drive; like thin pastry mix.

Some days are good.

 I can handle it.

Some days i'm in a pickle,  in a  fix.

Sip of water; not gulps, sips.

Those mornings when the rain is hidden in forecast of the night passed; I go outside early to pull up a chair sit in my back yard and watch the daybreak into a splendid today.

I sit in the coolness of the morning in the tender gray, I swim undisturbed. My thought freely connecting with bird songs; caws, whistles, sounds new and old.

Soaking in the aroma of flowers in the crispness of a new day before the butterflies come out to play.

CORONA COCOON

To dawn i bow in deep respect

The action of hope in effect

 Again engines are rumbling

The wheels of industry turning

Traffic jams in the streets piling

Return to old can we accept

The new normal landed for sure

Oh it was so quiet before

When we hid in our homes or

Just stayed indoors because we wept

Family and friends swept away

A wave called corona keeps all at bay

Yet  with vaccine and caution may

We creep out of cocoon adept

Mosaic Monday #141: Short and Sweet

AND

August in T&T, begins with celebration of freedom; freedom from the chains of chattel awareness, freedom to claim the dignity and status of all mankind - human.
With drum songs and dancing feet, flambeau and Canboulay flames lighting the paths of future days.
A public festival of pre Covid19 eras halts today to the tune of Lockdown season and curfew hours. The feasting and festivity is tamed to family stay home  numbers.

Days progress to weeks of August. Heads cool to swell with pride of  nationhood; as Trinidad and Tobago ends August on the note of Happy Independence.

WHEN THREE SHIPS SAILED
In ships three
Santa Maria, Pinta and Niña
They set out to sea

They sailed and sailed
But mutiny stung his men's heart
“ Give me my men but three days"

This was his voyage three
Lo! ahoy! he saw the peaks three
And named the landmass La Trinity

Some say he governed with greed
And his rule was one of tyranny
The Columbus brothers three

Christopher, Bartolomé, and Diego
Returns to Spain from voyage three
Reward to chains of imprisonment

Freed eventually and rewarded
Were the Columbus brothers three
This is a small tale

In lines of three presented
Three cheers for
The island of Trinidad

The Challenge:The idea of three can appear in any form and in any association in your poem: three objects, as in the floating heads shown in the painting by Odilon Redon below, three places, events, people, states of mind, directions, colors, or whatever, as long as you incorporate the number as a meaningful element of your piece.
