Love Is The Chorus

There’s a lullaby for suffering; words so sweet, a pot of gold nods, showering its coins in a melodious rhythm over every rainbow colour.

There’s a lullaby for suffering; in a sharing of music so captivating, the most ragged man woman or child, can hear it, can understand it, can stretch out a wanting hand and receive its melody.

There’s a lullaby for suffering. It's the smell of a beautiful charm on the wind. A refrain, so enchanting, the greediest man, woman or child will wither under its spell: transforming to a thunderous sound of - love is the chorus.

Jouvert Monday Madness

Carnival Monday and Tuesday comes just before Ash Wednesday, so it is usually a February or March event. The Carnival season ends with two days of masquerade through the streets.

The two day parade starts at dawn with the wierdest of costumes; paints and mud, yes, mud on the bodies of revelers. This early Monday morning opening is called Jouvert (pronunced joo-vay)

This year 2025, we can chalk it to March madness. The rest of the parades that is Monday afternoon and Tuesday is about intricate designs and artistry through the streets. Beads, feathers, sequins, and colour play a dynamic drama in the streets.

Yesterday it was Children's Carnival Sunday along The WesternMain Road here in St James Trinidad 🇹🇹

Quadrille Indigo

The Western Main Road is abuzz,

Onlookers dance to soca music,

The children in costume frolic

Under azure sky, where layered

Cumulus, puff up like cotton candy

In the afternoon sky;

Here comes a masquerader

His indigo motifs resonate his

Dancing in blue sneakers.

Every Reason - A fold

Where is there equality in our world?

All's unfair every reason to discontent,

The dainty yellows now unfurled,

Think they are fairest of them all,

Where is there equality in our world?

Broad intoxicating reds, oh so

Gaudy, floral vixens unreserved,

The purples claim to be royal,

Though no septre will be twirled,

Yet side by side the're put together,

Where is there equality in our world?

She never liked Port of Spain. She lived in the central Trinidad an area called Warrenville. The bus route meandered through cane fields on those dusty afternoons she travelled home ftom work tired, but happy the weekend was hers to return home to her own five children left in the care of her mother and father

Such was her plight, an absconding husband, who deceided to go live with a woman who sang at calypso tents during the Carnival season. Her father had stretched out his arms to her. "Come back home, he said"

Use this as a challange she mused. It's not the end of the world, but rather you can make of it a parka for your soul, warming your consciousness to healing and growth. © gillena cox 2025
