Haibun Monday
Meet Piet

Kim's prompt today is this image which is to inspire a haibun from us.

❧✿❧

Structured colourful pieces fit so nicely, locking one end into another. No wonder kids love it. Leggo blocks I believe, are designed to fit the fantasy of every idealist I am sure.

If it cannot fit, it's not meant to be. No surprises, no challenges, no adventure, no revolution. Just the plain and simple square knot into the correct square hole.

And in this compelling game of bonding, grandparents and grandchildren loose themselves, regardless of weather or time of day. I reflect on pre covid days. I miss my granddaughter. A video call is just not the same thing as a visit.

  11. I really like the Lego view. When I think of all the times my bare feet came down on one of those sharp edges while kissing the kids goodnight...

  15. I’m glad your laptop is working again, Gillena, I know what that’s like! Your take on the image is so much fun, and I can see why it made you think of Lego and how it is a lesson for children to learn: ‘If it cannot fit, it's not meant to be.’ I also agree that it’s a ‘compelling game of bonding’ – I like playing with Duplo, the big Lego for toddlers, with my grandson, and I miss him too. I love the way the free-blowing drapes and crawling ant in the haiku contrast with the rigidity of the Mondrian painting.

  16. The comparison of the photo to lego blocks is such a creative perspective. The pain of video calls not being as amazing as physical visits are so true. Your haiku added a flavor to your haibun. :)

  20. I loved lego as a child (still love it if I'm honest). There is something very satisfying about building and creating. I hope you and your granddaughter can build lego together soon.

  23. Oh yes....I've enjoyed playing with both my children and their children with legos. I like to do free form with them rather than follow the patterns that come with the "kits"....it's amazing how creative you can get. And then the duplos which are the larger ones for toddlers too.
And then the movement from plastic blocks in the prose section to drapes billowing in an open window and a crawling ant. LOVING this post!
