Kerry over at the imaginary garden gave us this photo as our weekend prompt. Since i'm already in mood Christmas i wrote this tanka
giving all she got
she sweeps the nard with her locks
across his feet
just like the little Drummer Boy
giving of his music

Note
John 12:3 - nard a biblical reference
The Little Drummer Boy- a Christmas carol
Camera FLASH!
Your impression of this photo took a very interesting turn, Gillena. It is an emblem of extreme devotion to dry another's feet with one's hair.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your appreciation Kerry
ReplyDeletemuch love...
Indeed... I had not thought of Mary Magdalene... but it fits perfectly with that image.
ReplyDeleteI love your take on this, so different and original.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I hate that Drummer Boy song with the heat of a million blazing supernovae.

much love...
This is brilliant!❤️ I hadn't thought of Mary Magdalene.. but this fits together beautifully!❤️
ReplyDeleteYes, your poem reflects the Biblical humbleness of cleansing one's feet whether it is hair or hands.
ReplyDeleteAs everyone has noted - your approach and interpretation really is unique and wonderful - and it does have this oddly humble idea of the biblical, of devotion - and I appreciate how, in some ways, this contrasts so strongly with the image, the way she is laid out. Intriguing - yet so fascinating!

Oh, right! The woman from the bible using her hair to wipe Jesus' feet. I never thought of that. Cool!

I caught the locks and feet, but did not know 'nard'. Now I do. Such an intricate take on the prompt.
