MOI?

"Me? Why me of all people. Why do i have to leave my house to go on a picnic. The last time i did such a thing my children were toddlers. My husband was smitten with me and the Hollows was as green and eco friendly as God's Paradise. So why now. Why this. Do you owe me a favour i do not know about."

"And bring no book, for this one day We’ll give to idleness." He said.

And i muttered is he some kind of poet nut or some such sort?

MARKET PLACE TALES

 Tattletale and Fish scale

Found themselves at the market place.

Tattletale was the one to speak,

There be herrings? let me sneak a peek.

Fish scale, no one wants to take home.

These days of the busy buyers aplomb.

The pumpkins were  rough and pulpy and round.

Buyers all wanted a cut or a pound.

No one stopped to listen to Tattletale;

Always one for gossip and ale.

Fish scale decides to play it cool,

Laying on the surface of herring smooth.

I'll take the whole fish!

Was a buyers wish,

Who grabbed a cut of pumpkin for soup,

This left Tattletale in a bit of a loop.

Everyone so busy

No time to listen

To gossip or to tales,

Masked buyers at the market space,

For these be pandemic days.

[Yanda cutting her cake at her birthday dinner November 2021]
prosecco gets the nod,
for a child carried in the womb, in the heart in the mind.
and she greying, now a half century old,
who can sit at table with her, and not give the nod
to  prosecco?

the night is cool, the salmon baked,
the stories: some of praise, some of struggle, some of mischief
all of wondrous miracle.

there's a sunflower on the cake
a real sunflower
no-one will eat that, the sunflower i mean;

along with the yellow roses, big and bold,
thanksgiving and heartfelt gratitude is
lifted to divine source.

i am a mother, happily so.

QUADRILLE - MUSE

Amusing, oh how these days,
Coy of old things, of old ways,
Pulling back and marching forward,
Sound the dawn, with ontoward
Expletives, of drunkard reverie.
Yes, bars are opened again so verily,
Shadows will walk staggering,
Steeped in oratories slurring
With stories revealing.

MERRY CHRISTMAS BACKDROP

World lockdown days;

We got to that state,

Kenopsia:

The paved road stretched out,

Before in a distance of maybe,

One person along the way,

For buildings and buildings ahead.

And slam bang !

It happened here,

After days of annual and usual,

Carnival frolic and bacchanalia;

Aftergloom:

Sharp poignant and instructing.

And here we are today;

A new normal of

Openings vaccinatings new strains like Omicron,

Still teaching us lessons along the way,

Heartspur:

To the tune of Merry Christmas.

© gillena cox 2021

Notes:

Aftergloom: the pang of loneliness you feel the day after an intensely social event, as the glow of voices and laughter fades into a somber quiet.

Heartspur: an unexpected surge of emotion in response to a seemingly innocuous trigger- the distinctive squeal of a rusty fence, a key change in an old pop song, the hint of a certain perfume- which feels all the more intense because you can’t quite pin it down

Kenopsia: the atmosphere of a place that is usually bustling with people but is now abandoned and quiet.

to write the '44 word poem' using any form of the word tinsel

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS LORE
Adorned the Christmas tree
Tinseled and sparkly
Awaits the oohs and aaws
A Christmas morning cause

Adorned the Christmas tree
Decked so magically she
Is ready for the night before
The eve like days of yore

To dance for Santa
A jolly little rhumba

Chapter 1. Cinnanmon Sticks

tinsel and baubles -
the sound of paper tearing
between giggles

And so it is, that rainy morning, the spidery Anansi, awakes to eight arms full of his two anansi children, tugging at him from every direction; pleading with him to come downstairs, to open a gift under the Christmas tree.[excerpt from Anansi An Unusual Experience by Gillena Cox]
