PONDERING WAVES
Ever sat at the seashore pondering waves?
Some arrive in a dragon's mighty splash
Some hunch and whimper like tired slaves
Whether calm or fury an ocean to unlash

Some arrive in a dragon's mighty splash
Sunshine beats down on near nude backs
Of the young, not so young, and the brash
Wet toes trudging sand to nibble on snacks

Some hunch and whimper like tired slaves
Cradling knees in the hot barefooted sand
Perhaps a pebble to find, treasure to crave
Bird songs like praises to a glorious land

Whether calm or fury an ocean to unlash
Pearls from below rise in undulations
Watery kingdoms at the ocean floor stash
Such wealth of heaven safe from intrusions

OF BEAUTY
Speak to me of beauty i say
To my muse sitting atop the mountain peak
She and i sip lemon drops that slide down
From the throne of heaven

To my muse sitting atop the mountain peak
I have asked a question she is shy in retort
Or may be i am hurried in my seeking
Only the drift of clouds can span this gap

She and i sip lemon drops that slide down
Into a bowl of topaz crystals so precious
I'm almost afraid to reach for them
To be so flawless, so like the sun, variant

From the throne of heaven
Pours forth satiety, warmth and goodness
Honesty, clarity, applause and smiles, joy
Yet beauty lies within the seeker's reach

MAGICAL
Tree aromas perfumed our afternoon stroll
Distilling silence, only love immersed the soul
You and me for ever and ever that was our desire
Bright flames of the heart, Oh lets us feed this fire!

Distilling silence, only love immersed the soul
Shadows will soon paint the evening stole
There are some flowers will resist night's sleep
Ever vigilant ones like ixoras stay open to peep

You and me for ever and ever that was our desire
Passion never to wane, enchant us frogs, to this mire!
Let our kiss then, be magical, transformed together
We as one, be safe haven for every kind of weather

Bright flames of the heart, Oh lets us feed this fire!
For tomorrow comes in stealth as clouds for hire
This cannot be a helpless state where fantasy lies
For regaled in our I do's therein our future resides

SAYING SOME NAMES
Trees slender, trees tall,
Trees spreading, trees for all;
Botanical gardens, royal in the city
Of Port of Spain, serene and pretty;

i say your name with love.

Hear the beat of the brass band,
Hear the beat of the steel band,
Look how they swaying them hips,
Masqueraders with kaiso on their lips,
Dancing, prancing, in the Carnival drama,
All the way to the Queens Park savannah

i speak your name in revelry

Hot spicy tasty roti
Doubles with pepper slight or heavy
The hosay parade,
The tadjas all handmade
The tassa drumming a la mode
Through the Western Main Road

I say your name with words ornate

Port of Spain city main,
St James close terrain
I say your name, say your name
Say it again and again.

SHADOW FIGURE
Extensive,
we make shadows,
not knowing the play of life upon us;
contrasting skies,
like warriors marking trenches,
to bury memories,
evoking left lovers behind,
slipping moons;
changing shape like play dough,
in the hands of children,
sensitive to the innocence,
of smiles and trusting,
that today is all there is,
of tomorrow's dream;

Curtailed,
in the volume of unspent eons,
basking in scars unfading,
still fresh,
ever fresh the dirt of millipedes,
shuffled in tiny bickerings,
of wavering patterns,
signalling the wearisome task,
that births new constellations;
flickering lights,
bright unseen meteors,
of processes traveling,
travailing universes,
existing on the fringe of,
mind shattering kaleidoscopes;

Eyeballed,
stars twinkle in response to,
programmed eternity;
already the dearth of answers,
filed in the to do,
folders of hard drive realities;
when night succumbs,
to daybreak twitterings;
only because a phase of,
sieved light filtered through
then the shadows dancing
on the wall of the puppeteer's dare
somersaulted into yesterday again

ACCEPTANCE
This poem is an ugly duckling;
innocent, fluffy,
waddling in the wrong line up,
only to be shunned

Left alone, another lineup comes into view,
of waddling chicks just as soft and fluffy

This poem is a swan;
finding a place unknown, unheard of,
or a place embracing, calling, just needing an answer;
another line up, a leap of faith,
just a flap of little wings, and a waddle, closer to look

fall in line, a sense of well being ensues,
a natural line up, of similar, yet different waddling

This poem is ergo
inquiry, existence, nature, nudges,
dynamism, moving forward, not knowing why,
without an answer for every question asked,
seeking, journeying living breathing;
mystery and faith.

CANTALOUPE
This poem is a cantaloupe
Almost the colour of pumpkin, yet not quite
This poem has a skin rough like stony paths
Only not quite so gravelly
There are sunlight patterns on the wall, on the floor
On the tongue, a taste of delight after morning prayer

Still the news carry stories of heinous crimes
Switch on, switch off, the issues remain
People unkind to one another, greed, hatred, wars

This poem seeks a knife,
To peel off the rough skin, to scoop out the seeds
To slice the juicy, fragrant, delicious flesh
Place it in a bowl, then shout to the world
Come! partake of this! there is enough for everyone
Taste it! this poem, is, a cantaloupe.
