CLOUD
When morning faded in stellar allure
Seeks to bewitch with dust and pallor

When rocky terrain magically appear
Drawing blood at feet weary of wear

A cave where a stone heavy with rest
Forebodes such charm further regress

A talisman for a penny worth of light
Needs be the salvation honed foresight

Cloud covered let this day then assume
The gift to perform miraculous abloom

Cloud be meandering heart's day dream
Smothering despair return joy to deem

SPAWN
swing children sway,
sway for the rhythm of chantwell,
chantwell words from the mouth,
mouth of griots, souls of the landed,
landed here in new sounds,
sounds to mourn the loss of mother land;
mother land expands, to birth fresh voices,
voices of rapso, shaping this identity,
this identity of third world cultures,
third world cultures of first class music,
music of steel bands, and kaiso singers,
kaiso singers: telling, telling, telling of,
telling of ancients, and spawn of futures

ZURI

Zee is for Zuri
A sweet little girl
Grandma’s lil sweetheart
She’s sometimes called

She loves to sing
Alphabet songs
Ask her, she can sing
All day long

Zuri is cute
Zuri is fine
Letter Zee for Zuri
All the time

DOG DAYS
Wave after wave of sultry humid winds
Sweep dry dust of morning long and hot

Gathering particles of time in swift ardor
Wave after wave of sultry humid winds

Dog days trounced to crisp and crackle
Sweep dry dust of morning long and hot

Drawing sweat these tawdry sun rays
Gathering particles of time in swift ardor

Drought encumbent near driftwood poses
Dog days trounced to crisp and crackle

Returning waters lick barefoot toes
Drawing sweat these tawdry sun rays

Drought encumbent near driftwood poses
Returning waters lick barefoot toes

MONDAY AFTER
so they took their mamas to lunch
well lets face it, some took her to brunch
the restaurants, pregnant with mamas
irony of the other way round

so she ate, all these mamas eating...
for centuries, she has done the feeding
irony of the other way round

they smile and fuss and choose
right sides, right condiments, got it right
irony of the other way round

she wakes to the alarm clock ringing
that’s when she returns to the spin cycles
of washer and dryer and dirty socks
ever heard of the Monday after?

NEW HORIZONS
Oh mournful sea,
To whither, withdrawing thy skirted waves in flounces,
Brides departure be?
New horizons unrelenting tender hearts,
Venture in naivete,
Willing fragment to absorbing varsity,
Thy love insistent on hope to ever after tales,
Where dreams canst be,
If not Ophelia then rescued Rapunzel she.

ITS LIKE
like sunlight to start each morning
like birdsongs to awaken each bud
like wafting clouds with pastels hues
like the fragrance absorbing dew

................................of course the moon shines for the dark night
................................of course the stars design the after hours
................................of course the clink of ice soothes the ambers
................................of course bouquets tumble at the feet of goddesses

Liken life's canvas of hot laval splurges
Coursing through tenebrist tales ever aright
