CUPPA
You draw me in with your fragrant charm
A cuppa in the morning to follow the alarm
Heaped granules or finely spooned
Dark and bitter but sometimes lait festooned
Ritual recurring from berry to enriching balm

celebrating the Soca Warriors; Western Main Road St James, Trinidad - 2006

YEAH SOCA WARRIORS
so when we heard our team would represent,
we spilled out into the street to share consent;
red white and black, the colours we fly;
every one, young and old, our spirits high;
from then on, every foot applied to a ball
sensed a dream - a youngster answering the call
the Soca Warriors to Germany they went;
World Cup fever we never regret, the energy spent,

SNAPDRAGON DAYS
I see you, in the mist of a forest, setting the sun to night chambers,
you radiate like the aura of a bright star on blanket night sky;
you remain nameless, your force of presence makes me squint,
humbling me yet again and again;
Splendid is the rise of your morning pink hues, set against
egrets returning from the roost;
your presence engulfs, enchants, en-wraps
My eyes are closed now
i feel you , i know you, i sense you;
In the outages of snapdragon days on halycon sands from salty winds;
i can only crave your appearance to delight - the moon shine, sun sparks,
and twinkles; wingless messengers the Gods fashion into auroras and halos;
Forever giving, giving, giving hope is it? or delusions may be!
What is your nature, where are your passions, who are your consorts
Fairy god-mothers planning ball events, for cinder gals???
i think you RAYS - ray of hope, ray of sunlight, ray of stars bright
RAYS: kissing gently eyelids closed, enchanting eyes-opened
i'll name you thus just RAYS every eye can sense you.

THE AMPHITHEATER
lights on:
footsteps up and down , up and down
the concrete steps;
pulse of 'we beat festival'
cool nights in The Amphitheater 's bowel,
gestating rthymn after rthymn;
the flair of a community once stated -
"they never sleep";
but times have changed,
they sleep now,
awakened; every now and again by the 'we beat' vibes:
the jazz...
the corn soup...
the steelbands...
the corn soup...
the craft items on sale: earrings, rings, t-shirts...
the corn soup...
St James awakes to
'we beat festival'
in the bowel of
The Amphitheater.
